IBC is Expanding to Optimism 🚀 We’ve just completed the first-ever The Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol tx on OP-Sepolia, Optimism’s testnet — using the OP Client! This marks IBC’s first token transfer between OP-Sepolia and Ethereum Sepolia. Mainnet support is coming soon after the audit!

So, what is the OP Client? The OP Client is our implementation of the Optimism Light Client. While it follows the IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) specifications, it takes a different approach than traditional light clients.

Instead of just verifying block headers, the OP Client uses a stateless client model. This means it verifies the entire block execution, including all transactions—offering a more comprehensive validation mechanism.

This approach is necessary because the typical light client method doesn’t work well with L2 chains. Since stateless clients need a lot of computational power, the OP Client uses a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to handle those demands efficiently and flexibly.

Moving forward, we'll make the IBC available on the Optimism mainnet. TOKI will continue expanding IBC to more OP chains like @base, as well as @arbitrum and @Polygon, by implementing dedicated light clients for each network.
