Jeff Bezos: “Focus on the controllable inputs to your business instead of the outputs” Jeff gives the example of companies trying to drive up their stock price by actually going out and trying to sell their stock: “[A higher stock price] is the final output…. That’s not going to be sustainable. It’s a silly approach.” Jeff recommends working backwards from a higher stock price to its controllable inputs instead: “What are the inputs to a higher stock price? Okay, well, free cash flow and return on invested capital are inputs to a higher stock price. Let’s keep working backwards. What are the inputs to free cash flow? And you keep working backwards until you get to something that’s controllable.” He points out that a controllable input to free cash flow would be something like a lower cost structure: “If we can improve our picking efficiency in our fulfillment centers and reduce defects - reducing defects at the root is one of the best ways to lower cost structure - that starts to be a job you would accept. If you’re a reasonable person, you would say, I have no idea how to drive up the stock price - I can’t manage that directly. It’s not a controllable input. But I can make your picking algorithms more efficient, and that will reduce cost structure. And then you follow that chain all along the way. Marc Andreessen on how to get people to join your 3-person startup Marc says founders have two tools at their disposal to win new hires: 1) Stock options, and 2) vision. He explains: “The best entrepreneurs are really good at selling people on their company precisely because they can explain how the world is going to look in a way that is so compelling.” Marc points to Steve Jobs’s “reality distortion field” as the epitome of this: “If you get within 10 feet of Steve Jobs, whatever he says in the next 20 minutes, you’re going to walk out of there believing. He can say that the sky is purple, and you’re like yep that makes total sense . . . The best entrepreneurs all tend to have that in common and tend to be really good at that. It’s essentially sales — selling to employees. It’s an incredibly valuable skill to be able to do that. That plus stock options.” The other thing Marc has observed about hiring over the years is that right employees have to self-select into your company, even though that can be incredibly frustrating at times: “If you hired all the people you interviewed, it would turn out that 2/3rds or 3/4ths of them you probably shouldn’t have hired anyway. So what the best companies do is they provide a very stark idea of what the company is and what is it isn’t: ‘We are a company where people are expected to work 18 hour days and if you don’t like that, don’t come here’ or ‘We are a company where people expect to go home at 5pm every day and if you think that’ll be frustrating’ — whatever it is.” Marc gives the humorous example of Asana where it was a requirement that the whole company did yoga together: “If you like yoga, this is the company for you. If you don’t like yoga, don’t go there. You’re going to be asked to put your feet in positions that you’re completely uncomfortable with.” He continues: “I think the very best companies tend to be polarizing. So if in your hiring process, you’re turning people off as much as you’re turning them on because they’re deciding ‘this is clearly not the right fit for me,’ I think that’s a good thing.”

Because price doesn’t move randomly It moves to take liquidity, then delivers the real move. So your job every morning is simple: Where are the stops? • Above yesterday’s high? • Below yesterday’s low? • Equal highs/lows sitting clean? That’s the map. Now here’s where people keep messing up: They see price moving and jump in. No patience. No confirmation. Just impulse. Meanwhile, the real move comes AFTER liquidity is taken. That fake move you entered? That was engineered for you. So tighten up your execution: Don’t trade the first move. Don’t chase candles. Don’t assume direction. Naked shorts drove it down to today’s levels and tried to destroy the company. They are pinning the price here, hoping you get frustrated and sell early. Why doesn’t the stock price go up when the company puts out great news? It’s because the naked shorts (counterfeit shares) are so underwater and they are trapped. They can’t let the price go up because they fear a margin call. They sold shares they don’t have and will be forced to buy them back at whatever price people are willing to sell them. And if the naked short walks away, brokers are left holding the bag. That’s why trade settlement isn’t enforced. They call you racist, and think the conversation is over. News flash, this is not 1964 anymore. The American people are a lot smarter than that, and they’re not buying it. Because the reality is, people like me exist. What does that tell you? It tells you this country has made real progress. It tells you that millions of Americans are doing exactly what Martin Luther King Jr. called for, judging people not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. That’s not theory, that’s reality. But instead of celebrating that progress, some want to drag us backwards, into a system where race is everything, where success is assigned, where outcomes are engineered. That’s not empowerment, that’s limitation. The idea that someone can only succeed if a district is drawn for them, or if a box is checked for them, is an insult to the very people it claims to help. Here’s a better idea, be a great candidate. Work hard. Earn trust. Serve people. Put your name on the ballot and let voters decide.

And that's really the thing, right? They're setting themselves up so that they have to go after more and more people, because the people who are starting new businesses are not going to do it here."

The GOP must be destroyed and replaced with a populist coalition. Another name for that is post-constitutional mob rule. “The right has to give up on free markets.” My problem with Tucker isn’t the Jew hatred, that’s between him and God, although I have the right to call him out on it and I will everyday. My problem with Tucker and his merry little band of comrades is that they are authoritarians who don’t believe in freedom and liberty. That is what makes them dangerous because they use the Israel issue and the Jew hatred as a scapegoat to get you to be so frustrated and angry that you give up your freaking civil liberties and your freedoms and give in to authoritarians. That’s why Tucker is dangerous not because he’s a Jew hater. The only way America Only works is if we are going to be conquering the rest of the world and bringing them down under us and if that’s what the goal is, then I would like to hear people say it openly and honestly.

Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque was asked about a comment Damian Priest made recently about the same talent being in the top spots, and answers Jamie Iovine’s question on how he feels about the current generation of stars going forward and the “changing of the guard” right now in WWE — “Look, I get that. If you’re the guy that wants to take the spot, it’s frustrating when there’s guys above you that have the spot. We’re in a period of time where there’s a lot of top performers in top spots that over time have earned those spots and are selling tickets and are incredibly popular. So you really have to do something. The narrative of ‘It’s my turn. I’ve been here for a while’. There’s no turns. That’s not how it works. You earn the spot. Believe me. If somebody is getting over more than somebody else, we move that person into the spot and move the other person down. But it’s not just that, it’s not just they’re getting the loud crowd reaction. Are they going to be good in the spot? Are they going to hold up their end of the bargain? Are they going to screw up if we give it to them? Are they going to make a mistake that we regret? — There’s all those things factored in. And I love the fact that sometimes, talent are like ‘Well, it’s frustrating.’ Great, that means work harder.
