The problem is all these successful sport leagues make their money from deals with the cable TV giants, along with ticket sales. The big money is moving away from cable TV, so the deals are going to have to go through the likes of Netflix, YouTube and other online media giants... and they might not be willing to fork over the same amount of money that has supported the astronomical paydays the athletes get. Money is everything in this business. You want the good players? Money? Arenas around the country? Money. And it has to come from the media companies.
