ICYMI, Alberta now has the lowest minimum wage in Canada. (Guess what? Ignoring the problem doesn’t make it go away!)

The fact that Alberta doesn’t have a PST more than compensates for that. In fact, if you integrate the economics of that, our minimum wage is effectively the highest or close to it. You need to look at the entire picture, not just cherry picked NDP propaganda points. @ABDanielleSmith

And what happens when we raise the minimum wage and middle class can't afford the price hikes on basic products? For a guy with an economics degree I'd expect you'd start asking reap questions about wages like why the middle class wage has barely increased in almost a decade and yet prices on goods and services are almost double.

Maybe @NDP should quit importing so many foreign temporary workers that drive down wages

We don't need higher wages. That causes inflation. Everything goes up to pay those higher wages. You call yourself a leader? You don't even know simple economics.

Tip. Raising minimum wage, increases prices the next day.

I actually think Nenshi has a point. Once the TFWs are deported this problem should be addressed.

How unconnected from reality can you be, @nenshi? We don''t have a PST, and that compensates for a lot. Also, most places, even retail and food service, pay more than minimum wage. I was at $18/hr when I worked at Walmart, until 2021.

So? Alberta is a lot cheaper than BC or Ontario.

The cost of living is much lower in Alberta than BC or Ontario and if one was being honest (not Nenshi’s strong suit), the difference in minimum wages across provinces is negligible.

If people want to earn more than minimum, they should get a skill that pays them more than minimum. Minimum wage jobs are not meant for people to raise a family on they are meant for new workers (high school/college) & people who don't necessarily need the money but want to work
