In a late term abortion the mother must give birth to her dead baby, given she has to go through labour and give birth anyway, why are we killing these healthy babies instead of delivering them alive and placing them for adoption. These celebrations, which are communal and inclusive of family and friends, serve the purpose of honoring the new child and welcoming them into the community. The Sameer Project joined a traditional aqiqah in Central Gaza to celebrate the birth of nine babies from one camp! The beautiful singing of the aunties while the little babies were being washed gives you an insight into Palestinian culture and celebration of life. The moms got diapers and formula for the newborn babies and as you hear the woman say, babies don’t have enough basic supplies. This is why the Sameer Project launched “Give Warmth to Babies” campaign providing awareness sessions to moms on how to keep babies warm during the winter. They will also be provided with onesies, gloves and socks to keep them warm.
