I’d rather have a physical key for my car. I can see them using this to stop people from driving. Would you guys be okay with this?

So if my phone dies one day and I need to go to the store to get another one... I just want a piece of metal that goes into the slot. You turn it clockwise. It mechanically engages the starter. I want that. Fobs... bare minimum we have to have fobs. You need backups for the phones. Unless we have two or three phones that all work? Because from that this is sounding like that is the "plan". Or more likely, the "plan" is that the phones just will never have a problem ever some magical how.

Oddly enough when Subaru had Starlink (not affiliated with actual Starlink), I could pay for this feature. It is creepy. Needless to say I never did. I wish my car had a key and not push start or use an app.

There’s two different star links?

Yes. Subaru launched it in 2014 and ended it in 2023. No affiliation and separate trade marks.

Imagine damaging your phone and your car stops too. 2027 is when the kill switches go in too

They copied it from @Tesla. Personally, I love it, and the app functionality is awesome. With or without a physical key, they can shut your vehicle off whenever they desire. Tesla also provided two key cards for non-app drivers (valets, friends, kids). Additionally, I don't have to worry about finding a misplaced key, replacing the battery, or replacing the entire fob for $250+ when it's lost. And the guy in the blue shirt is a drama queen—period. Your phone, TV, vehicle, watch, any electronic device, the Flock cameras… what am I missing!?!? Everything is tracking us 24/7.

The key fob is an expensive optional on a Tesla. They give you a credit card with a wireless chip. But normally you use your phone as your key on Tesla. I expect most other companies will follow.

Hyundai has already been doing this as an option of course, you still get a key fob but you can also download the app and use your phone as a back up. This isn’t new.

Imagine renting a car??!! I saw it frequently with the Ford my key!! People would change the rental car to a teenage driving and car on the highway would stay at 55 mph! Very concerning. And the rental car company can't stop it!! Needs to go to the dealership. Just saying.

So when you go get your oil changed do you have to give the tech your phone to have it serviced? What about people who use a valet service?

Tesla doesn’t have a key, so that would mean most EVs sold this year don’t have a key.
