Not everyone needs a ‘god’ breathing down their neck & threatening eternal fire to do the right thing Some of us are morally/ethically sophisticated enough to try being decent human beings, kind, tolerant & helpful all on our own

Most Atheists view death as permanent so they also view life quite differently. If this is all we have it’s worth fighting for life not hoping we’ll get a better life after we die. Life on earth should be protected and cherished.

My father was an atheist but also the most moral man I’ve ever known.

Morality without a god is not impossible. To have a sense of right and wrong without the fear of hell or hope of a heaven. To do the right thing for your fellow man, to advance humanity to prosperity for our posterity, and ascend to the destiny that is of our own making as masters of the stars.

If atheism is true, everything is here by accident and it’s all going away soon.

In order to have a civil society, yes.

One commenter makes it clear that we can live a good life on our own without a god of judgment pushing us to live right. There's two things wrong with the paraphrased statement. First, the God of the Bible is not that God. His holiness demanded his people, the Hebrews to maintain a relationship with him within a set of rules and guidelines. Judgment was a result of disobedience because God's holiness demanded separation from fallen humanity. Jesus bridged the gap so that we could approach God without judgment, but receive mercy and grace. Secondly, because we are created in the image of God as humans, atheist or not any good we do is because of it. We are no better than animals when we refuse to acknowledge God in our behavior. Romans 1:18-32 makes this clear. You can say you are an atheist, but if you live a good, clean life your actions speak against your mental decision not to believe in God. You're acknowledging that image of God. It's behavior that leads to reprobation not thoughts.

I'm fascinated by how religious people are arguing more about the utility of belief instead of whether it's true or not. That really says something.

If Christianity is true and we can be saved just by repenting our sins, does it really matter how we live?

Atheists are some of the most decent & sincere people there are. They don’t hide behind religion 2b terrible ppl anyway. Man-made religion is just a way to control people through fear & ignorance. Any deep dive into man-made religion makes obvious it comes from men, not a deity.
