Getting stabbed at 0 years old is pretty traumatizing yea. And that's not adding the fact that he got thrown into ditch and had to save himself from his planet being destroyed. Goku crying is just the catalyst that triggers those traumas in his mind.

To be fair we only get a glimpse of his life growing up but even then he was a crazy SOB even without Goku around. He is the one that scared Paragus and went on rampages routinely. Which was why he needed to have the collar on.
