🐥 sometimes, you might get tired and sensitive and get angry and frustrated at yourself. i think it would be good to think that those moments are experiences that stick with you, and that going through them will gradually make you stronger and more mature. 🐥 and crying is not a bad thing. you have to cry to let it all out. having someone to listen to you is something to be thankful for. having me to comfort you is something to be thankful for as well. 🐥 i think we all have moments of loneliness, but it would be nice to think that we are together even in those moments of loneliness.

Farewell to International Space Station! This is truly a special place, special mission, and special team that makes it happen. It is a bittersweet departure today – I have a keen awareness that I may never be back here, and even if I was, it would be at a different time with a different crew. This chapter is over. Spaceflight has always been a life goal, and it has turned into a life-fulfilling endeavor – but not for the reasons I thought growing up. When I was young, I pictured the launch, the incredible ball of fire and the acceleration, the spacewalks (how could you not wonder what it’s like to be in that suit?), and I was fascinated by the shuttles, capsules, and stations. But as I complete this second mission living and working in space, what draws me to this job is the people. Experiences like this are amazing, but the relationships we build that make it possible are the “why.” Every day, this mission depends on people from all over the world, of different nationalities, races, religions, and cultures. It depends on government and commercial entities, it depends on all political parties, and it depends on commitment to an unchanged goal over many years and decades. It depends on people dedicated to being part of something bigger than themselves, whose names may never be known but who wake up every day to make the world a better place and to be part of something they will be proud to tell their grandkids about. History will look kindly upon them. Humans have always had a propensity to explore … across lands and oceans, up mountains, and into the sky. We as a species will never stop wondering what else is out there, and what it would be like to go. But then, in the words of TS Elliot, “…at the end of all our exploring, will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time.” Crew-10 is on its way home.

"The one thing that's going to be truly future proof is judgment. What is the biggest challenge when you have a thousand AI engineers writing code? AI slop. In an era when you can do everything, the question is which of these things matter. On the engineer side, it is evaluating the code. Which of this code is even valuable? You can have AI engineers writing beautiful code that could be wrong, that could have bugs in it, that could be vulnerable. Someone needs to review it. Make sure to have a human review at some point, especially critical code that is in the core of your system. On the product side is judgment around what needs to be built and evaluating. And similarly in design, you have to have judgment around, does it make sense in the broader design system. I think this judgment is the number one thing that humans are going to bring in an era of infinite productivity."

🧵29/34 FutureProof-Specifications / Future-Architectures --- The problems we briefly touched on so far are hard and it might take many years to solve them, if a solution actually exists. But let’s assume for a minute that we do somehow get really incredibly lucky in the future and manage to invent a good way to specify to the AI what we want, in an unambiguous way that leaves no room for specification gaming and reward hacking. And let’s also assume that scientists have explicitly built the AGI in a way that it never decides to work on the goal to remove all the oxygen from earth, so at least in that one topic we are aligned. AI creates AI --- A serious concern is that since the AI writes code, it will be self-improving and it will be able to create altered versions of itself that do not have these instructions and restrictions included.
