IF Liverpool can keep him bubble-wrapped and healthy, he’s a central defender that can be relied on in Premier League and UCL games. Alongside Virgil van Dijk, he profiles just like Ibrahima Konate; excellent channel defender, capable on the ball to an extent but you know he’ll win his duels.

Chet Holmgren says Cason Wallace is the BEST defender in the NBA right now “I think Cason [Wallace] is the best defender. If you're looking for somebody who not only can defend on ball but off ball in the passing lanes — you know, he can hound you 94 feet. He can get steals, but he can also play solid and just force you to miss a shot. You know big fan of Cason.” (Via Serge Ibaka )

This is Ronald Araujo’s last 40 duels; look at the quality of defending on display here. He has that South American front-footed temperament where he can step up and win the ball high; utilising his frame well to pin defenders. Comfortable drifting out to the channel to shrug opponents off the ball.

Steph Curry on how fair is it to expect Yaxel Lendeborg to be a massive factor as a rookie: “I don’t know, I mean, the expectation for him is just keep getting better. The nature of our league and social media, all the microscope is that they’re gonna expect him to be a 20-8-6 guy right out the gate or whatever number you put on him. His job is to block all that out. You’ll know, he’ll know if he’s impactful, he’ll know if he’s helping winning games. The stats and the numbers will follow, and it’s our job to protect him in that. But he also needs to have some confidence coming in that he can impact the game and he establish his own kind of metric of what a good game is. And just allow him to grow into that. He’s gonna get opportunities though, so that’s gonna be fun.”

Jeremy Jacquet was always going to be the Ibrahima Konate replacement. There are a lot of similarities to their game but Jacquet is a vastly superior in-possession asset. Capable of progressing the ball via the carry or passing.

Jérémy Jacquet is a Rolls Royce defender. Look at the quality of his actions on his Premier League debut away to Newcastle. That sequence @ 00:11 gives so much insight into his instincts as a defender and a footballer; how many times would a CB there clear their lines?

It was absolutely essential that Liverpool tied Dominik Szoboszlai down to a new long-term deal. This is a player that would cost you £100M to replace. At 25, he is one of the most complete all-action, all-zone true #8 that can score, create, win his duels, cover in multiple positions with an elite engine and pitch coverage.

“You know, I think if I’m honest, when I was that age, I was nowhere near where he was today.” - Van Dijk on Saliba Can Liverpool fans leave the 1 sided Konate debates alone now? His own partner didn’t mention him when asked which defenders have been top the past few seasons.

Is Jamie Carragher underrated? 🤔 I feel he is and that his punditry plays a part in it. So asked him the question and his thoughts on Van Dijk stating he wouldn’t have got into Klopp’s Liverpool alongside him🙇‍♂️ #LFC

🚨Arsene Wenger on Arsenal signing Enzri Konsa from Aston Villa: 🗣️ Arsene Wenger :“People keep talking about Van Dijk, Ramos, Dias... but the game has changed. The modern defender has to do everything. “You know who gave Haaland and Isak nightmares in the 2025/26 season? Enzri Konsa. He put fear into top attacks. Battled Watkins, went toe-toe with Nunez and showed why defenders with his physicality, pace and aggression are now the most valuable players on the pitch. “So if you ask me why we went all out for Konsa, I’ve already told you. He changes everything. He reads the game, wins duels, dominates in the air, and can step out and play. He gives you protection AND allows the fullbacks to fly. “Now imagine Konsa alongside Gabriel, Calafiori, Timber and Rice. You have pace, leadership, ball-playing and aggression all in one backline. If the manager gets that defense organized properly, then for me... clean sheets should be the minimum expectation. Winning the league and the Champions League should be the goal.”

Chema Andres for €23M is the signing of the window for Brighton. I used to buy into the baby-Rodri shouts but it’s purely down to his composition and limbs. But he’s an incredible first phase needle-mover that can receive deep under pressure and keep the game ticking. Capable of covering a lot of ground without the ball and using those long limbs to break up play.

🚨Trent Alexander-Arnold on Andy Robertson leaving Liverpool: 🗣️ Trent: "Andy and I share so many memories from my time at Liverpool… and seeing him leave now brings an end to a remarkable era.. We came in as two hungry players and pushed each other every single day, always trying to be better for the team and for each other.” “Together, we won absolutely everything there was to win in that red shirt, from conquering Europe to finally bringing the Premier League title to Anfield. But more than that, we changed how people see our position. To be up there together as the two defenders with the most assists in Premier League history is something incredible; a record we built side by side, season after season.” “Robbo gave everything to Liverpool; his heart, his fight, his passion — he left it all on the pitch. He has established himself as the greatest Left-back defender in Liverpool’s history.” “He’ll be missed by the club and fans. I wish him nothing but the best… and no matter where he goes, he’ll always be a scouser. He’ll never walk alone.” #lfc

For €20M, Liverpool should go out and sign Hector Fort. His La Masia education is evident; high-functioning technician capable of changing the picture in an instant. Expansive range of passing, creative two-way threat and possesses a physical profile capable of developing into a strong defender.
