People who say that opera and ballet are irrelevant have no idea how much of it has shaped our general culture.

I feel you, but "What's Opera, Doc?" was made 70 years ago.

Every Saturday morning Gen X kids got to learn every great piece of classical music through a cartoon bunny, duck and a pig with as stutter.

45 years later, my daughter can still sing every word of this "aria." 😂

oh, but my favorite line from that opera is definitely "SMOG!!!"

Most of my classical and opera exposure as a child was due to Looney Tunes.

This piece is so important my professor showed it to us in our classical music history intro class

This particular cartoon was amazing. I was actually almost crying, because I thought Bugs was dead.

This is clearly a Wagnerian opera and therefore controversial in some circles due to his views on wabbits.

@shesbonky When I told my singing teacher I had tickets to see The Ring Cycle the first thing he asked was “You HAVE seen this?” He considered it essential prep 😂

It is not irrelevant. It is art, unfortunately an acquired taste. We who were exposed to these cartoons can appreciate and even love it. Not so much the junk cartoons they are now producing.

I'll see you one "what's opera, doc?" and raise you "what's opera, Arnold?"

I think Gen Z and younger who did not grow up watching reruns of cartoons like this are missing a whole expansion pack of cultural knowledge that was imparted to us on tv from like 1950 to 1990 or so

Did you know if you have a song that stays in your head all you have to do is sing this out loud and the ear worm will go away? True story

So many decades have passed, and that opera episode still hits hard.

Opera is not irrelevant. People are confusing Opera with Avatar movies.

Our local public radio station for classical music played this during a fund drive once. I donated just for that.

This was part of the prep 2 years ago when I took my 12 & 15 year old boys to see cycle 4 of Wagner’s Ring Cycle.
