If other countries zero out their tariffs, what should the Trump administration do? If the Trump administration responds by dramatically cutting our tariffs, that’d be a home run for America. More on Verdict, here:

Senator Cruz is spot on—reciprocal tariff cuts are a win when our trading partners finally level the playing field. The United States Reciprocal Trade Act (H.R. 735) arms the administration with precisely this authority, allowing strategic adjustments to match foreign tariff reductions while protecting key industries. This approach already shrank the trade deficit with China by $220B during the first term, proving that leverage works. However, blind cuts without verifying foreign compliance would repeat past mistakes—like the $1.7T goods deficit under prior administrations. The 2025 Trade Policy Agenda emphasizes reciprocity, not unilateral disarmament. If partners truly eliminate barriers, targeted reductions could boost GDP by 1.1% annually while reshoring manufacturing jobs. But let’s not confuse cooperation with weakness—any deal must include ironclad enforcement to prevent backsliding, as seen in the USMCA’s auto rules that revived domestic production.

This is the whole game... the only danger is if weak republicans undercut the president

Going to 0% tariffs is good but they also have to remove any other trade barriers as well.

The arrogance of these countries to feel that we should pay tariffs to them, but that they should not pay tariffs to us, if they have tariffs on our goods. You gotta give it to them.... they are brazen.

Well, that is what reciprocal means. If they remove their tariffs, we remove ours. I would assume he used that word to indicate that.

A 5 year old can see this is fair. If a country puts a 20% tariff on American cars, the U.S. would slap a 20% tariff on their cars coming here. It’s like a tit-for-tat rule to balance things out. Why did it take so long to happen?
