'If shops do think it's fine for two more days then just make the date longer' 'Milk goes sour and looks bad and smells bad before it does you bad' Do you trust the 'sniff test' for gone-off food?

If she believes sniff test work then she shouldn't be in charge of Food standards angcey. Not everyone can smell gone off milk. It is reducing food standards. Milk is dairy. So no use by date, don't buy it.

Will we be allowed to take the lid off in the supermarket to sniff it? How do we know when we purchase it, it hasn't already gone off? This has come from the supermarkets lobbyist. They can leave on the shelf forever & it removes their need to reduce the price as it goes off

If shops are going to remove best before dates, fine, but then I want a date to say when it was packaged. Already been caught with veg already past its best when purchased.

@GMB has been vilifying Prince Harry all week but total silence on the subject today. I wonder why? Tick tock.

As others have said, I want to know milk's fresh before I buy it in the shops..it's not cheap..how will I or they know I'm not buying gone off milk if there's no date?? We all do the 'sniff test' every morning after that, always have..crazy days!🤦🏻♀️

We are being taken for mugs here by supermarkets etc. we want fresh produce. Nobody wants to eat produce that is on the turn or past it’s best, especially when we are paying what we are for it. We are being softened up to accept poor produce at inflated prices

Snowflakes comes to mind to those who are trembling at the thought a date will go. before dates, everyone did a sniff test. and at 67 i still do. a little bit of mould on the bread "pick it off" a little bit of fur in the jam pot spoon it out. come on people get a life.

Yes it’s a great idea to help reduce waste. What’s been missed is m&s support British farmers so prices are a little higher. So if you reduce waste the supermarket can reduce supply and increase profits. Supermarkets that import their milk such as Iceland will benefit more.

Or are we going to find milk starting to go off quicker without that date? Suddenly buying milk becomes a lottery...
