If The Empty Man (2020) has somehow slipped by, it’s worth watching for the opening alone. One of the most unsettling prologues in modern horror and a film that never got the attention it deserved. Quietly one of the decade’s most underrated genre movies.

“The Empty Man” was like two movies in one and I liked the first movie much more than the second one.

Just saw this last year. David Prior is one to look out for. What a debut! To come up with a unique horror story and execute it this well. It's already got him noticed. He's finishing up a Guillermo del Toro short story The Boy in the Iron Box and it comes out sometime this year.

Absolutely agree. That opening lingers in your head long after it ends, slow, strange, and deeply unsettling in a way most modern horror forgets how to be. The rest of the film takes risks and refuses to spoon-feed the audience, which is probably why it got overlooked.

First 20 mins of that movie are incredible. The rest is meh.

If you haven't seen AM1200 it's also well worth a watch. And Prior also directed one of the Del toro anthology shorts. I know he's working on something else now but I dunno when it's due out.

Opening scene is best part and completely disjointed from rest of movie.

Excellent movie. Underrated for sure.

Cool. Will watch!

One of those movies where every scene builds tension perfectly. The pacing and atmosphere are insane.

oh? I missed this. Definitely gone check it out later tonight.

Great film, very underrated and under-seen

Sooooo good !!!! Super under appreciated!

That was a good movie. Forgot about it.

FUCKING BANGER

The scene with the multitude of strangely possessed hoodie people is still in my mind.

Looks really good

Agreed.

Good lord,, I’m glad I didn’t see that before I tuck into bed!

Incredible movie, even on a re-watch

Maybe the reason the movie slipped by is because the rest of the movie doesn't live up to the prologue. Also it's kind of long. That being said, it's still an above average horror movie.

holy shit how did i miss this one

interesting

My favorite horror film, takes a few watches to really get your head around what it's about.

I think this was because of Covid like this and several other films at the time I thought were great but you could tell they had to quickly wrap it up and because of that the ending suffered.

Na fam, the intro should have been the movie instead of the adventures of tulpa dad.

The film that keeps on giving. James Dale Badge is so watchable. Obviously not in this clip...

Slightly mind fk for some but totally underrated

Great movie!

That fucking skeleton is something I thought I’d never see in my life. And I was fucking terrified bro

This movie has been on my to-watch list for a while. Thank you for reminding me!

Agree, very good movie
