In CA, once you leave the register with your receipt, your relationship with the store is over. You can walk out and ignore them. They can huff and puff but legally they have nothing. But if a cop is around, there is no situation that he wont make worse by getting involved.

You do not have to show your receipt at walmart. Your business with them ends upon payment and you own everything you paid for. You have no obligation to show them you paid for it in order to exit. Costco you have to because its part of your membership.
