still no. I think the me I am as a continuum, once it's cut, that becomes someone else who only starts as "a" me before diverging. I am an unbroken stream of consciousness, even if I sleep a part of me remains active, evolving plus... they did that in the series for convenience.

An interesting side note is the fact that the transporter was used several times to restore a person to their original state, like a backup. And if you think about that for a minute, you realize it's an immortality machine. Just revert to your 30 year old pattern as necessary.

The teleport debate is one of the biggest missed opportunities of star trek. If they had even one anti-teleportation character, that would have added so much color to the world.

I'd use it as a Save function. Save my particle info and materialise a version of me if I'm killed. You could end up investigating your own murder.
