Let’s not pretend that Canada, much like the rest of the world, hasn’t taken shots at the American way of life for decades. Canada has a highly asymmetric trade relationship that benefits Canada quite a bit more than the US. Canadians can stop buying all the products from America and stop visiting our country, and the US would still be fine. But if the US boycotts Canadian products — especially energy and autos — what happens to their economy? Developing new trade deals, routes, and the infrastructure to accommodate that doesn’t happen overnight. This also doesn’t take into account the national security implications of fracturing the relationship further. I agree with him that it’s in Canada’s best interest to diversify their trade relationships and not be so dependent on the US. However, if you think all of this seems more reasonable than simply waiting out the current US administration, then I wish you all the best.

Canada hasn’t been “normal”since 2015. The press focuses on the opposition not the government. The press has succeeded in driving three opposition leaders into oblivion. At the same time protecting the Liberal leadership from any possible threat of being exposed for incompetence or corruption. Poilievre is a real threat to this set up.
