If your default analysis for a black QB after a bad game is about how he struggles to read defenses, you should really show your work. From the latest Philly Special on Jalen Hurts (and Randall and Donovan and Vick and many others before them).

Hurts wasn't good this week. He did do a bad job reading the defense. He's also done a very good job reading defenses in 10 out of 12 games this year. To say he's not comfortable doing it and on top of that to suggest Mariota as a better option is laughable.

This was my first thought too when Carr said what he did.

Seems ridiculous to go from MVP favorite to getting benched for Mariota after one bad game against a really good defense.

Also pretty crazy to say when overall Hurts has still played well even through the injury. Just a bad game

@InHarmsWay19 Ok but you’re making something about race that isn’t about race. More often than not when a qb has a bad game it’s because he was reading some things wrong on the defense. Even Tom Brady had those days. Plenty of white qbs have also had bad days due to not reading the d well

I think the reason Jalen Hurts gets the “fails to read defense” label, because Hurts is only middle of the pack (even with Zach Wilson) at having productive plays on well-covered plays. Looking for explanations as to why an athletic QB with talent around him isn’t better creating
