SP3ND is a solid example of this. Paying for Amazon orders with USDC on Solana without an offramp or KYC isn't something a web2 competitor can replicate 🛍️

Many people mistake the fact they are building on chain to mean that they can build products with inferior UX and functionality, then use their token to incentive usage and adoption. It doesn't work that way you need to have a working product that solves a need FIRST. Web2 users want to solve their problem not farm your token. Selah... Your token is just icing on the cake.

x402 is exactly this. web2 cant do per-request USDC settlement at the HTTP layer. no invoices, no payment processors, no 30-day net terms. an agent hits an API, pays inline, gets the response. try replicating that with stripe.

Onchain just for the label isn’t enough . Differentiation wins.

Onchain shouldn’t just replicate web2 with wallets. It should compress trust, settlement, and execution into one layer. Otherwise web2 will always move faster.

Stop talking about rewards and speculative trading fees. Focus on commerce. The blockchain/crypto space was built for peer-to-peer transactions and commerce, not your middleman fee generation.

Real onchain innovation beats copycat Web2 models.

Your product needs a concrete edge in cost, speed, access or capability that stands on its own. Without that, web2 incumbents will out-execute you on distribution, UX and trust.

That clip from @base at ETH Denver captures it perfectly the long haired guy in the NBA All Star jacket dropping truth bombs about onchain uniqueness. If your app isn't leveraging what web2 simply can't touch, it's an uphill battle. Loving these real-talk moments from the team🟦

The real value of onchain isn't payments—it's composability, transparency, and user ownership. If your app doesn't leverage those, Web2 will eat your lunch.

The advantage isn’t “onchain branding.” It’s economic structure you can’t replicate in Web2. If it settles, routes value, and records history natively – that’s the edge.

The only sustainable moats of the blockchain are composability, verifiable state, permissionless money, and programmable incentives. Everything else is essentially replicated by Web2.

Most apps are just web2 with a token on top, where do you think the line is for real onchain advantage?

If it doesn’t feel 10x better because it’s onchain, users won’t care build what web2 can’t replicate or don’t bother.

Onchain apps win when they lean into what only onchain can do. Ownership, composability, open markets. Otherwise you’re just rebuilding SaaS with gas fees.

This is why I’m glad with @base change of direction away from creator coins etc and the decision to build its own stack Even @avantisfi aligned with this If you missed it, check this out👇
