If you're a React Native user, you should *really* try out Flutter some time to see what we're missing. The integrated debugger is just mesmerising. You can navigate your UI tree via component hierarchy, or via visual layout. Clicking on either takes you to the declaration site!

Try Dart with new primary constructors. It's like brand new language :D Sad that no one cares anymore.

Mainly I want to write Flutter code with HTML-like syntax (e.g. JSX). It’s fiddly to provide a child/children prop and to compose formatted text. I get that it’s really convenient for the renderer that everything’s so explicit, but it feels like a pain to write.

Compared to Xcode and Android Studio, what would be the better feature(s) here? Part of being native here on the React Native side is inheriting 1st party debugging tools. But I can see being able to put breakpoints anywhere (in either js or native code) would be huge.

Can I use react JS with it? That would be cool.

I believe there has been more than one attempt to create a React renderer for Flutter in the past. Here’s one. I see the Host Config, DOM shim, and vendored Flutter but I’m not quite sure at a glance where this thing calls Flutter’s C APIs from QuickJS.

Bear in mind, the above PoC is very incomplete, as you’d expect. But if you want to jump straight to the finishing line, I think you could just run React DOM inside OpenWebF, which is a W3C standards-compliant web rendering engine based on Flutter! 🤓

As a heavy flutter developer for 5 years. I barely ever used that thing.

That's the first thing caught my eyes when I worked on a flutter app 3 years ago.

Haters will hate, but i just use flutter for all frontend stuff now, about to try building a basic in-house analytics app with dart_duckdb too

3 years ago, didn't like it.. the syntax, "more abstractions", rewrite skia didnt they? mehh ecosystem . even in web i choose solidjs cause everything in js just works

two things that are awesome in flutter: the hot reload (if you add a widget inside another it will even animate its insertion lol) and the debugger those are unmatched, i guess that's you get for having a language that was basically created for your framework

First thing that got me quite surprised on RN was the lack of built-in, first party tooling. Flutter comes with great dev tools and they're all provided by the team itself.

Yeah, RN Components devtool is a dragon to work with. This looks way nicer.

The developer experience of Flutter is just impressive. I was missing out.

Having that visual flex explorer to debug layout constraints on the fly saves so much guesswork.
