Is the BBC trying to sever all ties with their Jewish listeners? “Buildings will be illuminated to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, which commemorates the six million people murdered by the Nazi regime.” Jews. It was six million Jews specifically. Even on Holocaust Memorial Day, the BBC cannot bring itself to properly address antisemitism. It is no wonder that an overwhelming 92% of British Jews rate the BBC’s coverage of matters of Jewish interest as unfavourable. This is absolutely disgraceful broadcasting. BBC, we demand an explanation for how this could have happened.

This is a perfect example of the transition from Chanukah antisemitism to Purim antisemitism. Chanukah antisemitism calls for Jews to erase key aspects of our identity, promising acceptance in return for erasure. Think of the false statements a few years back about how “Israeli food doesn’t exist.” They lied saying Jewish food developed over centuries living in the Middle East wasn’t ours. Then, when Jews went along and started calling it Mediterranean, that still wasn’t enough to stop the targeting and hate. And that point, it becomes Purim antisemitism. A call for the eradication of Jews, without an escape clause for those who assimilate. A threat that no matter how well we hide, they will find the clues that label us as Jewish. Also, this woman really needs to get a life.

The word you’re looking for is ‘Jews’, not ‘people’. This truly beggars belief. This dire reporting is not only factually incorrect but erases Jews from a genocide in which six million Jewish men, women and children were slaughtered specifically because they were Jews. How is it possible, therefore, that on Holocaust Memorial Day of all days, Good Morning Britain manages to acknowledge several other groups but not Jews? To make matters worse, there is no reference to Jewish people at all for over two minutes into this segment, and when there finally is one, it is only done once and in regard to former history students taking a tour of the Jewish quarter of Kraków. Additionally, there is bafflingly no utterance of the word “antisemitism” whatsoever. If this is intended to pay respect to the victims of Holocaust Memorial Day, it has failed abysmally and ignores the true nature of this horrific event. How on earth was this allowed to happen, ITV? We demand an explanation.
