Towards the end, if you change crude oil and replace it with power, one can easily understand why there’s power shortage in Nigeria.

There are nuances to gas prices in America. The average gas price in America is $3.718 per gallon. In states like Kansas, gas costs $3.148. Prices above $5 are for states with high gas TAXes, like California. Note the capitals — it's the State TAX that is increasing the price. California is also one of the few states in America that imports its gas, so they are importing the higher oil prices.

Interesting how questions from Americans are treated as curious, but the same questions from Nigerians get labelled ‘foolish’ or ‘poverty-driven.’ Not knowing something isn’t stupidity. Mocking people for asking is.

I live in America, I just got mine for $3.70 You're using California's price which is a skewed dataset. Generally.. California is expensive, even when the world is in perfect state. You can't generalize price using California. Again.. your data is already false out the back.

What you fail to understand from Nigerians is that, a minimum wage earner in America can still buy a full tank and pay all his/her bills but in Nigeria minimum wage is 70k but there are a whole lot earning below that in government or private sector. Reason from that way

For those asking the government to force the oil companies to sell cheaper to local refineries, thereby making the oil companies to make less profit than they should have made, I have a question for them. If the international crude oil price drops to say $30 per barrel and the..

It’s just simple economic sense🤷🏾 Why should Nigeria subsidize crude sale to Dangote Refinery that sells refined petroleum products to both local and international markets? This could only make the DR be the most beneficiary 🤷🏾

I love watching your videos cos you do your research properly before putting up one . Firstly, we should stop th US Nigeria comparison but since you have I just have one thing to say . The % increase in US is 22% while that of Nigeria is 50% . This is because of their SPR

America has a refining problem. Most American Refineries need heavier crudes to run efficiently but American crudes are light. It costs them more to refine their light crude. It's cheaper to get heavier crude oil from overseas. America exports most of their light crude.

What happened in the US in the 70s is exact proof that Nigeria is not a uniquely corrupt country. Everything can be blamed on systems. When the system prioritises anything other than free trade, you get corruption or decline.

Do not bother arguing with those whose mind is made up but in all fairness , the price of petrol is too high in Nigeria compared to the level of poverty in Nigeria . The removal of that subsidy without social welfare actually caused the increased inflation.

To have an intelligent convo on SM this days is a daunting task. I don't know if the concept of basic economics taught in school doesn't apply anymore.

This is well understandable. And it’s just part of the matrix of the world. If America who produces more oil and more refineries could face high price…no magic can be done here in 9ja. We just have to adapt.I do believe there must be a solution to this. Business is business

People in America are literally showing fuel pump with $5+ and your showing me ChatGPT

Peczi's profile picture
Peczi7 months ago

I expect you to know how effective ChatGPT is and where it gets its information from. Now you are seeing that people in US have actually corroborated that the average price is $3.8 except is cities like California. Do your research and don’t believe what people say here .

California is in Mexico? $3.8 per gallon is cheap? What exactly are you on about?

Peczi's profile picture
Peczi7 months ago

This isn’t the argument…. Just take the correction and let’s move on .. you tried to discredit what I posted because it was from ChatGPT. California is 1 state out of 50 states so it can’t be used to generalize. You can’t be right all the time .. that’s why we are humans.

Duru Bond's profile picture

And who's having an argument with you? You went from $5 is not correct to it's only in California. Even if I was to go by that, does that in anyway change the context of the video?! But your left every other thing in a 6 minutes video to focus on one insignificant point. Pls leave my mentions.

Oil has its global price just like stock and bitcoin, when tensions happen it goes up, so even if you have 400 refineries, your oil is valued at same price as oil globally. Nigerians complain becuz we should have a enough refinery to reduce cost of fuel instead of importin fuel

FG cant even subsidise the fuel now else some idiots will buy the fuel in tanks and sell to neighbour countries are the international price

Your see what I hated most in this conversation is the comparison of 2 different countries with far different mentality, how can you compare $ to Naira? Do we spend the same ratio? Like 1$ is equals to 1# are you people mad or what? US has never bought petrol with their highest currency but in Nigeria case, our highest currency is useless, imagine in some part of US, they sell for 3.78/gallone that around 4litres per gallons, and you’re here plastering this comparison to our own face, the only country you fit compare to Nigeria is Pakistani, go and find out how much is per litre in Pakistan, not up to 400 in their country make thunder strike that your mouth

America is involved in multiple wars, both directly and indirectly. Yet, how many of the oil they sell are priced fairly for countries with vastly different minimum wages? The U.S. has reached a stage of oil sustainability where their focus is merely maintaining reserves, regardless of global wage disparities, under the framework of the “petrodollar” system. Nigeria also has oil, but it hasn’t achieved that level of sustainability, and it cannot realistically compare itself to a global power with dozens of military bases worldwide. Nigeria has the potential to sell fuel at ₦200 per liter if it truly wanted to achieve sustainability, through a naira-to-naira pricing system for local refineries, with proper oversight to stabilize the market while adhering to international law. Moreover, crude exported from Nigeria should not reach foreign markets faster than it reaches local refineries in Lagos.

We should also understand that Nigeria doesn’t have regular power supply many Nigerians that do not even have cars buy petrol, diesel to power their houses and businesses. This further compound this problem. It’s a shame we still grappling with blackouts
