Videos have surfaced online of Assam Rifles troops rescuing Manipur Police commandos pinned down by insurgents with heavy gunfire in a highway ambush. The militants, hiding in a hill, had ambushed a convoy of Manipur Police commandos on the highway between Imphal and the India-Myanmar border town of Moreh on October 31. Meetei's proverb - Lou mappu yongna tanba (PADDY FARM OWNER BEING CHASED AWAY by MONKEYS) MOREH is inhabited by Meeteis and Nagas since history. There was no Chinkuki village till early 1940s in Moreh. However due to the proximity in distance the ChinKuki who were living in neighbouring Burma started migrating to Moreh afterwards. And hordes of ChinKukis arrived in Manipur especially in 1990s. These migrants have become a majority in Moreh and got themselves enrolled in the voters list❗ Then they started creating problems for the communities who are living in Moreh since ages. That was how the aboriginal Naga tribes, Tamils, Nepalis were forced to leave Moreh. Most of them were completely uprooted by the ChinKuki in connivance with their armed gangs operating from neighbouring Burma. Have said it from Day 1 that this isn’t just an ethnic conflict, Government has been saying that illegal armed insurgent groups having support from outside have played a big role in this conflict. A KNA (B) operative from Myanmar caught between Moreh and Churachandpur. All the more important to take stringent measures against them, along with completion of the fencing of Indo-Myanmar border at the earliest, decision of suspension of FMR to be implemented in letter and spirit. Identification of all illegal immigrants has to be completed at the earliest and NRC has to be implemented in the State of Manipur on priority.
