I argued in the Lords today that the assisted suicide Bill sends us down a dangerous road. We can't pick and choose which ethical principles we observe without depriving us of the most basic moral protections in future. "I urge us all to ask ourselves - are we really confident we are the generation that is so sure of its judgement, so wise, so knowledgeable, so confident we can create a good society on foundations not that we have inherited but which we ourselves have designed: are we so sure of all of those things that we can casually cast aside 2000 years of Judeo-Christian moral tradition and tell ourselves it doesn’t matter? Look around our country and ask yourselves this. I do not think so, and this is why I hope this Bill will founder."
