I’m adding some new player characters to Punch Kick Duck, so I made this quick overview of creating a froggy character 🐸 Pretty much a whole day crammed into 140 seconds! #PunchKickDuck #gamedev #indiedev #madewithunity

What the hell, I always thought they were 3D! That's some A-grade normal-map painting, you must have the patience of a saint!

Thanks! Sometimes the normal mapping is kind of enjoyable when you get in the zone, even if sometimes it feels like a bit of a mess until the final step. But the Corncob character was certainly a source of sudden regret within 5 minutes of starting 😱

Cool! What's the adveantge over using 3d models?

Good question. Sometimes I wonder if I should have tried using 3d models as there are pros & cons either way On the plus side 2D uses fewer vertices/polys. But mobile devices can handle a pretty large number of verts, so it's possible that 2d+normal mapping costs more... 1/3

What a classic scene. I wish I had thought of making one of the levels look like this corridor.

Believe me, it looks far more full-steam-ahead-toot-toot! in a compilation of clips at 400-600% speed than it would if you saw me sitting at my desk, slowly cleaning my glasses for the tenth time while trying to remember what the next step is.
