I’m an old school catcher. Never learned 1 knee down. Still learning how to teach it. I’m a fan. Here’s the 5 catcher stances in around 1 minute.

@MPLegends I don’t like 1 knee down. Feel like it causes more issues than it solves and kids get lazy and rely on it too much

@MPLegends I dont really teach it, yet. Unless they have mastered the regular setup, then we will tinker. and If they have it down when they start with me ill run with it of course.

@MPLegends I think the 1 knee down training can start with youth catchers in certain scenarios. Nobody on. Less than 2 strikes. See how they handle that and go from there.

@MPLegends I was never a catcher, but I went to by buddy’s lesson with a former big league catching coach. The biggest thing I learned during it was you need an elite catcher and pitcher for it to work. Which only works in pro ball and imo shouldn’t even be considered until then. Too risky.

@MPLegends Finally

@MPLegends Catching is my personal biggest knowledge gap. I was a career pitcher, know what a good one looks like but never did it myself! My coaching sequence in order for 11/12u: Stance(s) Receiving Blocking Footwork (to throw) Field leadership knowledge What do you think?

@MPLegends Catching has changed a lot since I did it. I loved being a catcher. The big thing that stood out to me was your runner on with the RH. Not a fan of it in front of the body. Too easy to catch a foul ball on your hand. I was taught to protect it. Y do u teach it this way? Thx!

@MPLegends Yea I mean if we want to throw someone out the hand will need to get out in front at some point

@MPLegends Now explain Tony Pena.
