Here's why that won't work. Lawmakers are sitting next to $6 trillion in government spending, and it takes the most virtuous person not to pinch a few bucks for themselves. The system needs to restore itself to its former size as described in the Constitution. The founders knew about human failings and tried to limit it as much as possible by spreading power as far and as wide as possible. We've ignored that truth for many decades. Here we are.
