His gf is either a catch with a good sense of humor or the exact opposite.

He must be at peace right now, time to ruin it.

If you are going fishing/golfing/anything outdoors for your personal escape the conversation beforehand with the missus goes something like this: "I'm going (X activity) today so I may be out of cell reception for a bit. Should be back around (time)" Then have your phone on airplane mode and focus on the now. Life is better this way.
