One of my coworkers was talking about Juneteenth he stated it was a celebration. I asked him a celebration of what, he was stumped, so I gave him the real history of it. Needless to say, he didn't talk to me for the rest of the day.

Slavery is not synonymous with black people. Slavery was worldwide. Yes, whites owned slaves in America. But so did blacks. Blacks owned slaves in Africa too. Europeans bought and sold slaves. Middle Eastern people are not innocent. Slavery was worldwide. But on the good side, there were whites and blacks in America united against the evil practice, and eventually, the slave trade was defeated. It is not shame on whites and lift up blacks. It is shame on evil and praise God for the good.

The "Juneteenth" story is a great American story that bears repeating; and I can absolutely get while it makes sense as a holiday in Texas. But, I think a more fitting National Holiday would be to celebrate the 14th Amendment, or Better Yet, Constitution Day.

I asked a young black man I worked with knowing all this history why he and a lot of black people vote Democrat. He said the parties switched. I asked him when did Republicans start lynching black people. Crickets….

I’m Black and I didn’t know about Juneteenth until a few years after moving to Texas (early 90’s). Specific dates didn’t remain stuck in my head from school, so June 19, 1865 was one of those. This should have remained a state holiday, but I’m cool with it either way. 🇺🇸

Most Texans know this story. Well, those who are older and were taught the real story in Texas schools. The Democrats are slow. They just found out about it and tried to profit politically off of it under Biden. Texans had this holiday for 41 years before the Democrats tried to capitalize on it. The Texas law was written by a Democrat and signed off on by a Texas’ Republican Governor. 😏
