Cold dry air meets hot moist exhaust: condensation. When conditions are right, contrails form. That’s why some days you see many and some days you see none: it’s dependent on the conditions at the time. Spectroscopy indicates it’s just water.

Nothing… I’ve been leaving contrails in the atmosphere for 30 years. There is no “chemical trails” button in the cockpit… it’s just condensation from natural combustion. Water vapor is a result of combustion… simple.

Not enough space here, but simply demonstrates a very stable atmosphere. Allows contrails, etc. to hang around a lot longer without being disturbed.

You notice the cirrus clouds blocking the sun? There is enough moisture at high altitude to form ice crystals. The hot exhaust from jet aircraft contains water vapor, it cools, forms a long cloud called a condensation trail. Why so many? You never notice absent these conditions.

I live under the Heathrow flight path. Regular planes do not fly in grids like this. My garden is covered in a chalky powder. I suddenly start sneezing in the evening for no reason then have a fuzzy head the next day. Government’s globally are spraying us.
