I'm playing the Japanese release here, the western version was made comically difficult to discourage people who rent it beating it in one setting, nerfed magic spells, damage that scaled up per stage, fewer lives etc, JP release also has superior sound quality via VRC6 chip

Wasn't that the SNES version of Lion King? XD I knew the Japanese version was easier, but I don't think there's a difference between the American and European version. The music sounds better in the western version, I think. More instruments doesn't always mean better music.

you can literally stand in the middle of the stairs no need to wiggle between skeletons red skeletons turn around every 4 steps they take; they're made that way so you can manipulate them out of the way

Have you played the second quest? In the western version, Konami added brand new enemies not found in the Japanese version, such as these skeleton heads which replace the medusa heads. They have no specific movement pattern...good luck! 🤣

Also on PC but it's really random and unreliable, prior to the clip there was a lot of slowdown and pausing/unpausing seemed to fix it, maybe it's a Windows issue

Dang that is weird, I heard the same with the Mega Man collection. Sometimes PC stuff just doesn't work right it's really frustrating. I would get a Famicom emu and put in the password. Best of luck and I hope you beat this game, it's one of my favs
