So the end of each step is held by 3 1/2" screws into a 3/4" board. I don't see this lasting to long. Would suck to be at the top step when those screws rip out.

Why? You can't use the space underneath the stairs because it defeats the reason for having them in the first place. Just make proper permanent stairs with a handrail.

🤝 hinges should be full width, wood should be thicker, and would not fold flat against unless the outside hindge went over the tread board, I'd consider bolts rather than screws. If it fails you risk major injury.

Structural engineer here. There should be at least 6” of wood between the top of the wood and the notch for the stair step. That stair stringer is “effectively” 3” deep and will break.

Brilliant concept but under-engineered. The much-too-thin steps are screwed into the underneath of those small hinges. You couldn’t pay me to walk up those stairs.

If it’s an occasional use thing like access to an attic, why not just use the tried and true hatch with a fold up ladder? If it’s constant use why not just build real stairs?
