In the late 1970’s, I calculated that we were going to have a global debt default. I was so confident in what that meant for the markets that I went to Congress to share my perspective. I couldn’t have been more wrong. While several countries defaulted on their debt, the impact on markets was the opposite of what I expected. And I lost a lot of money — for me and for my clients. I had to let all of my employees go. But it was the best experience that ever happened to me because it taught me that pain + reflection = progress. And it taught me three lessons that became the foundation of Bridgewater’s success.

Some moments remind you why the journey matters. Everything I’ve accomplished in life, every win, every experience, none of it means much without perspective. Being able to give, connect, and impact people along the way is what truly fills me up. Tonight inspired me in a way that’s hard to put into words. Grateful. Grounded. And genuinely excited for what’s ahead. This life has given me more than I ever imagined and I don’t take a second of it for granted.

I might have to start training at home more often. Everything is closed and I ain’t driving on these icy roads, so the family is training at the home gym. Hit 315 on bench for an easy 9 reps. I could have tried for 10 but I’m too old for that and as strong as Preston is, lifting 315 off of your pops is a lot to ask. Backup generator, home gym, sauna, wrestling mats and more - no gains will be missed by the Lobliner family. Thomas has already had three of his teammates over for open mat. Hope y’all are having a great weekend!

I’m so damn pleased with myself today. I completed the Kashmir Half Marathon - 21 KM at an average pace of 5 min 54 sec per KM. I’ve never run more than 13 KM in my life & that too only ever once. Today I just kept going, propelled by the enthusiasm of other amateur runners like myself. No proper training, no running plan, no nutrition. Picked up a banana & a couple of khajoor along the way. The best part was running past my home with family & others out to cheer me on. #kashmirtourism #kashmirmarathon #kashmirmarathon2024

I had calculated that American banks had lent much more money to foreign countries than they would be able to pay back, and anticipated an imminent debt crisis. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. I didn’t fully understand the impacts of quantitative easing, and so I lost money for myself and I lost money for my clients. Looking back, it was the most painful experience I could imagine — but it was also the best thing that ever happened to me, because it taught me humility.

I became All-State when I was supposed to give up the sport. - I became a College All-American when I was too short to have my hopes that high. - I scored 2,000 + points in college when I wasn’t supposed to ever drive to the basket amongst the “trees.” - After college, I became an All-Star in a professional league. - The training I created, FIRST worked for me. - Now, if you know me at all, I no longer really care about the playing career above. There are plenty who played at a higher level, and there are plenty who have more player accolades. - I personally don’t think it matters how good someone was as a player once you get into the training game. I literally could care less. I teach trainers all over the world, how to be legit despite their playing career!! - Don’t tell me how great of a player you were, tell me how you can help a player improve in their own body, with their own genetics, and with their own goals…… - With that said, the training methodology I created first worked for me, but in order for it to be proven, it had to THEN WORK FOR OTHERS. - It has. For over 17 years… - BUT! When all said and done, there are TONS of different ways that have proven to be effective. - We should be having more legitimate conversations about ALL the different ways people are finding success. And how those ways can be balanced together!
