I'm not really interested in comparing these religions. It's not a competition. I have huge fundamental disagreements with Judaism, but thank you to Judaism for not inspiring thousands and thousands of terrorists that are killing Americans and oppressing people worldwide. I don't think you want to get into a... competition about which one is “worse” theologically. Islam obviously takes the cake when it comes to destruction, violence, marginalization, and oppression in every single place that it is popularized, not just in the Middle East, thanks to mass migration and Europe and now in the United States as well. It's not comparable when it comes to the effect of a particular ideology. I feel that some people on the Right have gotten this really strange brain worm that has made them think that if they're nice about Islam, then the terrorism won't come for you. "some people say that watching a good movie (as a director) creates more stress thinking, 'why can't i do it like that?'. but that's not true for me, i don't really compare myself much. i focus on the movie and think it's wonderful that art like this exists in the world and feel grateful for it. in such a messy world, there are people who create works like this, and it's such a relief that these works have been completed and i get to see them. in fact, i get stressed when i see works that aren't very good. not just movies but things under the name of art that pretend to have depth and act all arrogant. as if they're desperate for recognition & wanting to be acknowledged but are empty works. honestly, most art these days makes people so tired and often feels like a kind of pollution. so if you want to do something, you really have to do it well and thinking like that just adds to the stress."

Like if you ask me what's a passion of mine — I like 50s doo-wop rock and roll. I listen to it almost every day. I'm not writing a book about doo-wop music because I don't really see a great way to make that interesting to a large number of readers. I think about things that people want to explore in themselves. And then I say, okay, are these things that I have something to say about, or I have some knowledge about, or I'm curious about myself? And when those overlap, when one that I'm curious about overlaps with something that I think readers will be curious about, that makes the list. What doesn't make the list is just because I'm interested in it. It's a business. You're putting out books and you're trying to get people to read them, and it takes you a year or two of your life to do it."

You know, I think that we're in an era right now where voters are really demanding something that I think is a bit unusual, right? Uh and that is that the Democratic party, our elected officials choose them, right? There is more active participation. And sometimes I think the Democrats mistake lack of voting or that type of, you know, electoral engagement for engagement or for apathy. But people aren't apathetic. People are incredibly tuned into this. And when they see our elected officials taking just remarkable amounts of dollars from, for instance, Apac or other super PACs, it's discouraging to them. It's disenfranchised. It's disappointing. And right now, Americans are saying, "We don't want Forever Wars. We don't want our tax dollars to go to continuing genocides or expanding them." And they're very, very clear about that. So, I think that the Democratic Party's going to have to get they're going to have to wake up to this one. And I think that it's not going to go away. And I think that perhaps they're hoping that it just does."

In New York with some people it's just like, 'Well we just have to do our things in New York and not worry about the rest of the country.' It does not work that way. We are one country. Our democracy can rise or fall on what this man is doing. And, it's not just our democracy. ... It directly affects our lives. The stability of our economy depends on the belief in the rule of law that people think we have a stable legal system, and it's hard to believe that today"
