Now take it one step further... what's the meaning? A rose on a grave is the the epitome of too little too late. The giver didn't give while the receiver could receive.

I posted this on the FB version of this. But its an old story that Lady Death brings you a rose as she greets you whilst riding a big horse, also known as a Grey. That's what the lyrics mean. "Your kisses hit me so hard, its like the last surprise of my life."
