I’m rewatching the 1987 All-Star Game, and one thing I quickly noticed is how much every player really CARES and is giving it their ALL. Elbows being thrown by Barkley to protect the ball, guys crashing the boards and blocking shots. What an era of hoops. NBA players used...

The NBA All-Star Game is this weekend. 🏀 hasanabi is distraught that Israeli-born player Deni Avdija (who is averaging 25 points per game) was voted to be an All-Star: “If there's any sort of voter process, Mossad will come in and game it. That's precisely what they did.” Hasan Piker doesn't know ball.

Yaxel Lendeborg says all the talk about his age gives him extra motivation: “Honestly man, I liked hearing it because in a way, it’s giving me extra motivation. You guys are acting like I’m really 45 years old. I’m 23 years old. Most players get into their prime around this age and get better still, you know. This is going to be my first year in the NBA. This is going to be my first year having an actual off-season, summer training, all that stuff. I’m obviously going to grow and get better as a player and learn so much. I really don’t know what it is. If that’s my only weakness, then I must be a really, really good basketball player, you know? So I’m really interested to see how it all goes. And I’m excited to see all the players with the high ceilings and better aspects and goals and inspirations. I want to see how they do when we see each other in the NBA.” (via NBC Sports Bay Area & CA with Bonta Hill and Monte Poole)

Devin Booker on being snubbed from an All-Star selection: “It was a goal of mine, but this just reproves the point of the NBA is different than the NBA I fell in love with. All the best players made the All-Star game, and now it’s an entertainment, drama, political league.” 😳👀

The NBA All Star game of 2001 stands out as a PRIME example of true competition and passion among the players. This was the LAST time the game was good because the players actually CARED. Notice the East All Stars reaction at the end of the game to see the PRIDE and GENUINE excitement they had in securing their victory. The game featured tough shot making, real defensive efforts, and a united drive to win for their conference. It's not simply a matter of nostalgia, but rather a testament to how the game was truly at its BEST when the players had a genuine LOVE for it. Nowadays, we often see a different attitude among players - they care more about being a wannabe “fashion model” than being a basketball player. They are entitled and focus on building personal “brands” instead of giving it their all on the hardwood.

Fred Ridley gave perhaps his most strong take yet on supporting golf ball rollback. "As for professional golf, we hold firm in our belief that the greats of the game are defined not merely by how far they hit the ball, but their extraordinary skill in all aspects of the game. Their ability to shape shots, to take on risk, and to execute under pressure is at the heart of championship golf and is best displayed through a full spectrum of shot-making opportunities. "Regulation of the golf ball is not an attempt to turn back time or stifle progress. It is an effort to preserve the essence of what makes golf the great game that it is."

This is the fifth HBCU classic game at @nba all star weekend, and I’ve been to every one working on the @siriusxmnbaradio broadcast. The crowd is always engaged and energetic and it’s always a celebration of black culture and excellence. I love being a part of this every year.

I say this every year, but the all-star game really used to be appointment TV, and 1993 was my favorite. I know this type of intensity is never coming back. Not asking for it. Just wanted to show people what it looked like when the 24 best players in the world actually competed.

Kerry Rupp is a great man. He is the first one in the office and the last to leave. He cares about his family, his players and ball. I’m so happy for him! He teaches us all how it should be done! By example!

Despite the outcome, it never fails that Cooper Flagg takes the time to meet with young fans immediately following tough losses to sign autographs and take photos. He shares his why: “I’m 18. I’m not that far removed from being those kids and being a fan at an NBA game. Win or loss is one thing, you have to be competitive and focused on that but it can’t take away from giving back to the people that are there to support you. That’s kinda what it is for me. Like I said, I’m not that far removed from being those kids and wanting an autograph or wanting a picture with players when I was younger. I know what it is and I know what it’s like to be there and support somebody and how much it can mean; and even change somebodies life just to stop and say hello.” 18-years-old. First pick in the NBA draft.

LeBron James says the days of one player holding the ball and ISO all game isn’t the way to win anymore “It’s a numbers game. How can you start the blender. Is the Blender being started with the pass and cut. Is it what the Miami Heat are doing? Or is it what the Lakers are doing where we start a lot of our plays with the Pick and Roll because we have such a dynamic P&R player in Luka” (Via Mind the Game)
