Yaxel Lendeborg says all the talk about his age gives him extra motivation: “Honestly man, I liked hearing it because in a way, it’s giving me extra motivation. You guys are acting like I’m really 45 years old. I’m 23 years old. Most players get into their prime around this age and get better still, you know. This is going to be my first year in the NBA. This is going to be my first year having an actual off-season, summer training, all that stuff. I’m obviously going to grow and get better as a player and learn so much. I really don’t know what it is. If that’s my only weakness, then I must be a really, really good basketball player, you know? So I’m really interested to see how it all goes. And I’m excited to see all the players with the high ceilings and better aspects and goals and inspirations. Notice the East All Stars reaction at the end of the game to see the PRIDE and GENUINE excitement they had in securing their victory. The game featured tough shot making, real defensive efforts, and a united drive to win for their conference. It's not simply a matter of nostalgia, but rather a testament to how the game was truly at its BEST when the players had a genuine LOVE for it. Nowadays, we often see a different attitude among players - they care more about being a wannabe “fashion model” than being a basketball player. They are entitled and focus on building personal “brands” instead of giving it their all on the hardwood.

I say this every year, but the all-star game really used to be appointment TV, and 1993 was my favorite. I know this type of intensity is never coming back. Not asking for it. Just wanted to show people what it looked like when the 24 best players in the world actually competed.

I’m not that far removed from being those kids and being a fan at an NBA game. Win or loss is one thing, you have to be competitive and focused on that but it can’t take away from giving back to the people that are there to support you. That’s kinda what it is for me. Like I said, I’m not that far removed from being those kids and wanting an autograph or wanting a picture with players when I was younger. I know what it is and I know what it’s like to be there and support somebody and how much it can mean; and even change somebodies life just to stop and say hello.” 18-years-old.
