Google dropped a new AI paper called LUMIERE. It's remarkably flexible, supporting video inpainting, image-to-video, AND stylized video generation tasks. Say hello to “space-time diffusion” for video generation! Now what the heck does that mean exactly?! 🌐⏳ → TL;DR it utilizes a “Space-Time UNet” architecture that generates the full duration of the video in one pass, rather than generating distant keyframes and interpolating between them like prior works. Because the computation is done in this “compressed space-time representation” to generate the full clip at once, it's far more temporally consistent. → Another benefit of generating the full video at once is that you can “direct” the video generation, making it easier to hand off to other models/tasks without having to stitch together partial solutions. You can condition generations on additional inputs, meaning you get the full stack of AI video capabilities – from video inpainting to image-to-video and beyond. → New SOTA for AI video generation? User study results in the paper suggest human evaluators preferred Lumiere over Runway Gen-2, Pika Labs, and Stable Video Diffusion in terms of quality, text alignment AND motion. But as always, we need to get hands-on with this tech when Google *actually* decides to ship it. → Could this end up inside YouTube? Y’all know i’m obsessed with blending reality and imagination – so it’s the video inpainting tech I'm most excited about. I really hope this model finds its way into YouTube's Generative AI efforts, and based on their prior announcements and the list of acknowledgments in the paper I think it might! 🤞🏽 Links: 🔗Paper: 🔗Project:

This week is already so hot. 🔥 Massive release from Decart : Lucy 2.0 a World Editing Model running at 1080p, 30FPS in realtime. This is truly exciting, the era of real-time generative reality is here. We are moving from watching AI video to living inside AI video. A breakthrough model capable of transforming the visual world in real-time. Moving beyond offline rendering, Lucy 2.0 delivers high-fidelity 1080p video generation with near-zero latency. Lucy 2.0 literally "redraws" the entire world pixel-by-pixel, while you are watching it. e.g. If you want to be an anime character, it doesn't just put a mask on you. It turns your skin into anime skin, your hair into anime hair, and the lighting in your room into anime lighting. Lucy 2.0 is also trained to stop the generated video from slowly falling apart over time, so the same stream can run much longer without faces and details drifting. So why is this a "Massive Deal"? Traditional AI video-generation model takes a prompt, you wait 10–20 minutes, and the computer "bakes" a video for you. You couldn't touch it or change it while it was happening. But Lucy 2.0 works like a mirror. It happens in real-time (30 frames per second). There is no waiting. You move your hand, the AI character moves its hand instantly. The craziest part isn't the visuals; it's the physics. Usually, AI hallucinations are glitchy—hands merge into faces, walls melt. Lucy 2.0 understands how the world works without being told. It knows that if you take off a helmet, there is hair underneath. It knows that if you splash water, droplets fly. It learned "physics" just by watching millions of videos. The physical behavior you see emerges from learned visual dynamics, not from engineered geometry or explicit physics engines. Their official technical report explicitly states that the model does not use traditional 3D engines, depth maps, or wireframes. It is a "pure diffusion model."

✨ Grok Imagine Video is now live on Photo AI It's hard to explain how impressive this is because of the speed that xAI got itself from literally nothing to the top of the leaderboards Six months ago Grok's video model was a joke, it wasn't even close to any of the video models out there, it looked cartoony and wasn't there and nobody took it seriously Now it's here and it's instantly the #1 video model out there now, it shot above Kling (which I used before on Photo AI and usually my favorite) and above Runway Gen 4.5 which was just launched 6 days ago! Mmore importantly it's now above xAI's biggest competitors' models: Google's Veo 3 and OpenAI's Sora 2 Being the best video model doesn't mean it's flawless: video is incredibly hard and actually because it looks so realistic now when it does make a mistakes it's even funnier One thing I noticed is that it still has a hard time with is voice, it does it well for a majority of the video but then slips up and produces unintelligible blabbering (which is really funny to hear) in both English (video 1: "it's where I find my naim", what's a "naim"?), and tested it in Portuguese too (video 3 at the end is unintelligible Portuguese I believe) In many ways Grok Imagine Video also reminds me of Sora, it has that weird but funny Sora conversation style But guys it's REALLY really really really close to getting perfect, we're so close to having full video productions being to be able done in AI, actually you already can if you just cut out the bad parts already Very exciting and I'm grateful I can experience this

Thank you Centre Pompidou Centre Pompidou, everyone who made Nature Manifesto happen, and all the people that took it in. We were happy to see the conversations that the use of AI in Nature Manifesto sparked !! Below is a message from Björk: ~~~ “ the flood of all things from AI is overwhelming !! i am super grateful for your concerns about it´s effects on the environment , it shows you care , are curious and have integrity . i am curious too , i would like to be more informed about the difference of "frugal" AI and the ones that do hugeenvironmental damage and want to be able to choose . i asked around and found out that both the visuals and the audio in our pompidou project were done with "frugal" AI . but i have a lot to learn . when we used some of the AI softwares to merge the animals voices to mine , some of the sounds were great but to be honest , the best blends of their voices and a human were done "manually" , me editing the sounds , choosing piece by piece , looking for personality , musicality and soul . with new technology , i try to use it as a tool to grow , not a crutch . for example when i used melodyne , i used it not for lazy voice progressions but spent even more time when using it . every note in every chord became intentionally more complex . ( for example choir in "thunderbolt" ) and hopefully stretched the potential more out , further than i would have in "normal analog" physical improvisations ... i felt with this new tool i could reach new places in my musical DNA , become MORE personal . more myself . in my opinion , this is how we will work in the future . humans can read emotions on an incredibly high scale . nature made us that way . if there is no soul in tomorrow's music made by AI it is because no-one put it there and we have to speak out and guard this as listeners . ( tbh there is a lot of soulless muzak on spotify already ... they don’t need any AI help for that ...) anything that is mass manufactured without the attention of creativity , is that way . AI or not so it is not about the tool it is what you do with it . " ~~~ The visuals for Nature Manifesto were crafted by the talented Sam Balfus, artificial intelligence being one of the multiple tools used in the process. The sound was produced in collaboration with artist Robin Meier and IRCAM IRCAM. My Lost Soul Aside Impressions: I’m playing on the PS5 Pro in performance mode with a VRR display, and I’m very satisfied with the performance. For me, the image looks sharp and the gameplay runs very smooth with 60fps. Even during big boss fights, I haven’t noticed any significant drops. Claims that the game runs at 20fps are absolute nonsense. I wouldn’t recommend quality mode, as the missing frames per second and the input delay are a major disadvantage, especially with such fast-paced gameplay. Visually, I’d say the game looks very good, but not outstanding. Environmental details are sometimes not fully polished, and the facial animations could be better. On the other hand, the characters are incredibly detailed, which I really enjoyed. The combat animations are absolutely fantastic, and the choreographed fight cutscenes are brilliant. Boss fights are simply phenomenal and I loved every second of them. The whole experience feels like a mix of Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry. Bosses also come with certain mechanics you have to trigger, which adds depth. The soundtrack has impressed me so far, mixing rock tracks with softer melodies that really bring the fantasy world to life. However, the audio mixing between cutscenes and gameplay is sometimes off and should be fixed. The game is very linear, which I personally find refreshing and not a negative at all. The map reminds me of Final Fantasy X, with some side paths that hide chests or items. Puzzles are simple but help break things up. Larger areas are often rather empty though, and exploration can feel unrewarding when all you find is “+7 gold.” The story so far is quite predictable. I didn’t enjoy the English voice acting and switched to the Chinese original, which feels much better. I also made some adjustments to improve my experience: in the sound menu, I boosted the weapon effects and increased the music volume. In combat, I found there’s too much chatter and subtitles are distracting, so I turned them off completely. The game is challenging, and I’d definitely consider it demanding. There are no difficulty options, but if you die often enough, you’ll get amulets that make the gameplay noticeably easier. Now, onto the clear highlight of the game: the combat system. My goodness, it’s amazing. The chaining of attacks and overall complexity are simply brilliant. It’s an endless fireworks display of effects, and for me the wait was truly worth it. At first, combat might seem simple, but as you progress you unlock new weapons with their own skill trees, special attacks that can be upgraded, new combo actions, and the ability to switch weapons instantly in battle to chain them into even more combos. Different weapons can also interact with the environment and trigger special effects. It’s just genius. Another fantastic feature is weapon customization. You can freely change the appearance of your weapons, as every weapon can take on the look of another. You can also adjust details in real time, resize parts, reposition them, and all changes are applied instantly without requiring resources. Even better, these customizations carry over into cutscenes. When you move to the next level, the camera zooms out and shows your characters in a charming overworld view, similar to Expedition 33. A really nice touch. So far, I’ve been enjoying the game immensely, and I simply couldn’t put it down. If you’re expecting a combo-based combat system, you definitely won’t be disappointed in my opinion. The linear level design felt incredibly refreshing, and it genuinely transported me back to the PS2 era, always leaving me with a warm feeling in my heart.

A gym asked to repost their workout video. Eight months later, that same gym pays them $10,400 a month. Two friends run one Instagram account together, split down the middle. It started as a joke — a place to dump their workout clips so they'd stop flooding their personal pages. Then the gym they train at reposted one video. Then asked for more. Then offered to pay. That was the whole beginning. One local gym, a small monthly fee to keep their feed looking alive. Here's what they figured out fast: gyms are desperate for content and terrible at making it. Beautiful equipment, dead Instagram. The two of them already film every session anyway — so they started pointing the camera at what the gym needed and handing it over as a finished feed. Now they run it like a tiny agency. Three gyms and two activewear brands pay them to produce a month of content each — reels, captions, the posting calendar, the whole thing. The part that makes it possible with two people and full-time jobs: AI does the 90% that used to need a team. They film. Claude does the rest — cuts one session into 20 clips, writes captions in each client's voice, builds the 30-day calendar, drafts the monthly report that keeps every contract renewed. What used to take an editor, a copywriter, and an SMM manager now runs while they're getting coffee after the workout. 5 clients. Around $2,000 each. $10,400 a month. Their cost to run all of it: under $60. That number doesn't move whether they have 5 clients or 15 — that's the entire model. The wild part is how ordinary they are. No huge following. No personal brand. Two normal girls who train together and realized the footage they were already making was worth money to someone else. Every friend group at every gym is filming the same content for fun and letting it die in their camera roll. These two just asked one gym if it wanted to buy it. The full breakdown — how two people turn shared workouts into a real content business — is in the thread above. Read it before another duo in your city signs those gyms first.

I wanna share a story from #wtrsfminSingapore, the 5th stop of his 2024 world tour. We all kinda knew he wasn't in a good condition that day, after the packed schedule, nonstop shows, long flights… It showed. He looked pale, drenched in sweat. But like he always does, he gave everything on stage. Once he stepped out, it was like his body forgot how tired it was, like being up there healed him, even just for a while. There were some cracks in his voice, and a few songs weren't performed. It was enough to tell he couldn't push much more and needed real rest. Still, he ended the show with an apology for "not giving his best." But honestly? We all felt the same, I believe. He gave more than enough. So much, it made us worry for him. And to make it even harder, before the show started, he'd already been through 1:1 VIP M&G. JARS lining up with different requests, all wanting our own little moment with him. He handled each one with care, warm, sincere joy. Because that's who Jae is. For him, it's never just about himself. It's always about us. This video was taken after the show, when we saw him heading to the restroom. He could've just walked away after that, no one would've blamed him. But instead, he looked at the crowd waiting and said with a gesture, "Come, let's make a line." Still smiling, still hugging each one. Even after everything. I cried. Some of us quietly left because it was just too hard to watch him push through when he was clearly on the edge. But Jae will always be Jae. Even the big, well-built security guards couldn't stop him from showing up for his fans. He's genuine. Everything he does comes from a place of love, not for attention, not to be praised, but because he truly cares. Even when he's hurting, he protects others from feeling that pain. Thank you, eaJ¹. For all the love you give. For staying kind even when the world isn't. What you've rebuilt these past few years can't be undone by noise. Please rest well. Please take care. We love you, always. eaJTEAM Adm ❤️🫂 #JARSforJAE #weloveyoueaJ #eaJPark

I'm sorry but it's such a braindead, pointless, utterly inane take that for some reason people like to parrot. This guy said Drogba wouldn't SURVIVE in the premier league today (insane). He takes the idea that "standards improve with time" (valid) and applies it like a sledgehammer, without an ounce of thought. Messi struggled far more in the 2010 world cup (still in his athletic prime), than he did in 2022 (washed). So did football actually get worse? Or are performances and stats influenced by dozens of contextual factors that these simplistic era arguments completely ignore? Maybe it's not as simple as 'he's more modern therefore better' At what point does football 'get away' from the upper echelon players? Maldini played across 3 decades at a high level. Drogba thrived in the exact same era that Messi and Ronaldo did. I can be intentionally obtuse and point out that Salah thrived in the modern PL, while he struggled for Chelsea barely a year after Drogba lifted the UCL. How does this dude square these things? if the past was so much worse, then surely every top player today should've destroyed it when they were actually coming through right? Or at least in their 20s? Danny frickin Welbeck is still bossing it, but I suppose Rooney would struggle? I have never seen any indication that a top player can't translate at least 90% of their value from one era to the next. The only thing that stops them is athletic decline. I cant believe I have to explain this - but even if it's granted that standards today are better, that doesn't necessarily mean a goal today is more valuable. Those are two separate things lmao. There have been simply more goals from ~2010 onwards, and especially the last few years. For a plethora of reasons (more refined build-up, tactical advances, rule changes, more expensive squads/superteams, greater disparity between top teams and the rest etc). The mid 2000s averaged about 2.6 goals in the PL (around that if i remember right). The last few years it's been over 3(!!). If anything goals are EASIER to come by for the top forwards today (we can quibble with semantics, and it wont be true in ALL cases, but generally this is true). When watching old games - yes u see some practices, or some spaces that wouldn't exist today. At the same time, I often see shocking defending, or certain spaces open up today that wouldn't have existed in the past, so let's not oversell how good defending is now, it's not a case of 'every single thing is definitely way better now' either. Evolution is not always linear. Regardless, doesnt it naturally follow that higher standards, owed to better data/training etc would allow those past players to also scale up? Isn't that just a super obvious conclusion to come to? So what is the point of constantly saying "things are way better" or "this ex player wouldnt survive" other than to smugly and ignorantly disparage past talent? What other point is being made? I've attached a clip of Arteta (who seems to be Alex's lord and saviour pbuh going by his YT thumbnails) saying that he would be a better player today with all these modern advancements.

THE CLIMAX EVERYONE REMEMBERS IS BUILT FROM THE SECOND WHERE NOTHING HAPPENS A ronin. An army. One continuous shot. The frame most people miss is the one that makes everything land: a beat of pure black right before the explosion. Here’s what that sequence actually teaches: 1. Contrast is something you spend, not a setting you turn on. Stay bright the whole time and you’ve got nowhere left to go when it counts. Hold the darkness long enough and a single bright frame feels blinding. 2. One accent color in a monochrome world hits harder than a full palette. Charcoal, ash, pewter… and exactly one slash of violet neon. Your eye goes straight to it every time. Add a second accent and you halve the power of both. 3. The blackout isn’t just a transition — it’s the turning point. Everything before it is descent. Everything after is release. The structure is disguised as lighting. 4. Flat, faceless enemies aren’t lazy. They’re deliberate hierarchy. Identical grey soldiers and helmets make the ronin pop. Give them personality and you split the audience’s attention for nothing. 5. One continuous shot forces every decision to matter. No cuts to hide behind. Framing, movement, and light have to carry the whole thing — and that’s exactly why it holds up. 6. Quiet frames buy the loud ones. There’s a moment with zero neon — just black and white, hair streaming across the frame like spilled ink. It gives you nothing… which is why the next frame hits so hard. 7. End by taking the light away. Katana lowered, tip toward the ground, no glow left on the steel. The brightest thing in the entire piece disappears. That’s what makes it feel like an ending instead of just a stop. Why this matters: Most people build climaxes by adding more — more light, more motion, more color. This one does it by subtracting first. A dead beat costs nothing and pays off everything that follows. Restraint reads as confidence. Overloading reads as insecurity. Audiences feel it before they can explain it. You don’t need a bigger budget or a better model. You just need the discipline to hold back. The real lesson isn’t “make it dark.” It’s that impact is relative. You can’t have a true peak without spending time in the valley first — and most creators rush straight to the peak, then wonder why nothing lands. This version keeps all your original insights, tightens the flow, and sounds like a thoughtful filmmaker or editor sharing something they noticed — not like generated content. Ready to post.

✨ I open sourced my first Chrome extension 🚀 SuperLevels I vibe coded it to replace all my Chrome extensions that are increasingly being bought up by spyware and malware companies who sell your data or worse hack your accounts and steal your stuff/money/data, which I'd call one of the top security risks right now For example: Chrome extensions can read your cookies or localStorage data, including session tokens, then login to your web or email accounts and hack you, they can inject code into any site to pull data form any site you browse, then break into your crypto accounts, drain your wallets, and selling your browsing history to ad companies, but that'd actually be the most favorable thing to happen of all these! Chrome extensions are just very very very unsafe So I coded my own, that I can trust because I made it, and I can read the source code: my extension is called 🚀SuperLevels and has all the features that the Chrome extensions I used to use have but all built into one safe one The cool thing is it's 100% open source and free, and you can audit the code first with AI yourself before installing it, and then if you do install it, customize it to your liking again with AI It has these features that improve my daily workflow while browsing the web: 🚮 Tab Cleaner Automatically closes inactive tabs after a configurable timeout (default: 5 minutes). Set excluded hosts to keep important tabs alive. View and re-open recently closed tabs. 🍪 Cookie Editor Full cookie manager for the current site. View, edit, add, and delete cookies. Shows status codes (301, 302, 307, etc.) with a visual chain. Copy the full redirect chain to clipboard. 🌙 Dark Mode Instant dark mode for any website using CSS filter inversion. Adjustable brightness. Toggle per-site or globally. Images and videos are automatically re-inverted so they look normal. Ever wanted to enter the TV during a match? Made this video using Seedance 2.0 on Picsart Try here: prompt First-person POV from a comfortable reclining armchair in a cozy modern living room decorated with elegant baby-pink accents. Soft baby-pink cushions, a pastel pink knitted blanket, subtle blush décor, and warm neutral furniture create a stylish modern aesthetic. From the very first frame, a large wall-mounted television directly ahead is already broadcasting a live Argentina vs Spain football match in full swing. Soft golden afternoon sunlight pours through the windows, filling the room with a warm, inviting match-day atmosphere. The viewer's legs are stretched out comfortably while wearing casual shorts, enjoying the game from a relaxed position. Authentic British football commentary and realistic crowd ambience naturally play from the television. At 0:02, a beautiful young woman wearing a fashionable baby-pink casual shorts outfit with white sneakers enters from the right side of the frame. Her hair is styled in a neat half-French braid that moves naturally with every step. She is a neutral football fan, supporting neither team. She notices the intensity of the Argentina vs Spain match, smiles with excitement, then suddenly accelerates into a sprint across the living room. At 0:04, she runs directly toward the television. The camera remains perfectly stable in a first-person perspective without shaking or zooming. At 0:05, she leaps directly into the television screen in one continuous motion. No cuts, no edits, no transitions. As she reaches the display, the entire living room organically dissolves into a gigantic international football stadium hosting Argentina vs Spain. The television audio naturally expands into an overwhelming live stadium atmosphere while maintaining one uninterrupted continuous shot. At 0:06, she lands smoothly on the football pitch still wearing the exact same baby-pink outfit and identical half-French braid. A single football rolls naturally toward her. STRICT OBJECT PERMANENCE: Only one football exists during the entire video. The same football remains continuously visible from first touch until the goal. No duplication, replacement, teleportation, morphing, flickering, disappearing, texture changes, scaling inconsistencies, floating ball, clipping, frame jumps, or AI artefacts. Realistic football physics only. At 0:07, she cushions the ball perfectly with a controlled first touch. From 0:08–0:11, she dribbles continuously through both Argentina and Spain defenders using realistic footwork, believable acceleration, proper spacing, authentic body balance, and natural player reactions. Every touch follows realistic momentum with accurate football physics. No clipping, collision issues, or unnatural animation. At 0:11, she reaches the edge of the penalty area. At 0:12, she unleashes a powerful long-range strike using the same football. The camera smoothly tracks the ball's entire flight from her foot to the goal in one uninterrupted motion. Realistic spin, natural speed, believable trajectory, premium broadcast-quality tracking. At 0:13, the football rockets into the top corner of the net. The goal net stretches and ripples realistically as the stadium erupts. Authentic British football commentator shouts: "What a strike! Absolutely sensational!" Crowd chants become deafening. At 0:14, she turns and sprints toward the corner flag as the camera follows closely behind. For the final second, she leaps high into the air and performs the iconic Siuuu celebration, rotating before landing confidently with feet apart and arms extended downward while facing the roaring crowd. Her half-French braid swings dramatically through the air. Brilliant stadium floodlights illuminate the scene as tens of thousands of fans celebrate around her. **Ultra-realistic cinematic football commercial, premium sports broadcast quality, seamless living-room-to-stadium transformation, one continuous unbroken shot, authentic British football commentary, realistic player movement, physically accurate football physics, strict single-ball continuity, stable first-person camera, cinematic lighting, dramatic atmosphere, crowd chants, sprinting footsteps, grass impact sounds, realistic ball contact, powerful strike, natural net deformation, HDR, ultra-detailed textures, premium realism, 15-second duration, portrait 9:16, baby-pink aesthetic, no logos, no text overlays, no subtitles, no watermark, no flickering objects, no AI artefacts, no visual glitches.

🚨 What If Your Entire Life… Is Just Code? In 2003, philosopher Nick Bostrom published a paper with a question so unsettling that it still echoes through science and philosophy today: What if our entire universe is actually a computer simulation? At first it sounds like science fiction. But the idea is surprisingly logical when you think about the direction technology is heading. Look at how far we have already come. Just a few decades ago, computers could barely display simple graphics. Today, video games create entire worlds filled with cities, forests, weather, and characters that react to our actions. Virtual reality can make our brains feel as if we are standing somewhere else entirely. Now imagine technology thousands—or even millions—of years in the future. A civilization that advanced might possess computers powerful enough to simulate entire planets… entire histories… even entire universes. Inside those simulations could exist conscious beings who believe their world is real. Beings just like us. Bostrom suggested something called “ancestor simulations.” The idea is simple but chilling. Advanced civilizations might run simulations of their past to study history or understand how their species evolved. These simulations would contain billions of simulated people living normal lives, completely unaware that their reality is artificial. If a single advanced civilization created thousands or millions of such simulations, then the number of simulated minds would become vastly greater than the number of real biological minds. And this leads to a disturbing possibility. Statistically speaking, a randomly existing mind would be far more likely to be inside a simulation than in the original reality. In other words… the odds might not be in our favor. Think about your daily life for a moment. The sky above you, the ground beneath your feet, every star in the night sky, every memory you have ever experienced—what if all of it is simply information being processed somewhere else? What if reality itself is being rendered like a giant cosmic video game? Some scientists have even wondered whether strange features of the universe could hint at something deeper. Why do the laws of physics follow precise mathematical rules? Why does the universe appear almost perfectly tuned for life? And why does space and time seem to have limits at the smallest measurable scales? To some thinkers, these questions sound eerily similar to the rules of a programmed system. Of course, none of this proves we live inside a simulation. Many scientists remain skeptical, arguing that simulating an entire universe would require unimaginable amounts of energy and computing power. Others point out that the idea may be impossible to test. But the mystery remains. If advanced civilizations somewhere in the cosmos eventually develop the ability to simulate conscious beings—and if they choose to run these simulations—then billions or trillions of simulated worlds could exist. And in a universe filled with simulations, the most unsettling question of all appears: How do we know ours is the original one? Right now, you are reading these words, feeling the world around you, believing this moment is real. But somewhere, far beyond our understanding, there might be a machine quietly running the code of an entire universe… including you.

Reading with your baby isn’t always as simple as it might seem. Earlier this week, a parent asked how I’d advise reading to a toddler who may not have the attention span for a full book and who, when handling them, often tears the pages. I’m so glad you asked! This fantastic video, shared to TT a couple years back by hanzcakess, illustrates both the realities of - and several important lessons for - parents and caregivers when it comes to reading with infants and toddlers. First, when reading with very young children it’s important to begin with realistic expectations. At this little guy’s age (which I’m going to guess is around a year, give or take 2 months) babies‘ attention spans are VERY limited. Think 1-2 minutes tops. What does that mean for you? First it means that you’re unlikely to make it through an entire book. And that’s just fine. Rest assured that there’s still great value in the activity. Further, don’t be surprised if your child is more interested in interacting with (or at the earliest stages, even chewing on) the book itself rather than attending to the story it contains. That’s ok too. For both reasons, beginning with sturdy, laminated board books is well advised. Not only do these tend to be super short (with most intended to accommodate for babies’ brief attention spans), but they’re made to withstand the rigors of handling by infants and toddlers. Now, some might look at this video and (on first glance, at least) see primarily inattention. But not me! Here’s what I see: First, I see a completely normal toddler who’s already putting some really impressive book knowledge on display. Notice he’s advancing front to back and left to right as he turns pages sequentially. They’ve done this often. Also want to shout out what a truly fantastic job Dad is doing here. Notice that he’s totally letting his son dictate the terms the activity. He’s not insistent on completing the text, but goes with the flow as his son turns the pages. As the pages turn he’s helping to illustrate that the print on each one contains a unique message. And he’s singing the text! Brown Bear is a great book for this and many board books lend themselves particularly well here. Your baby isn’t judging your singing voice. Kudos on making the experience engaging. In light of all the above, don’t be afraid to stray from the text altogether as needed and use this time to simply engage in conversation about the pictures and introduce some new vocabulary. Finally, while lap reading is fantastic, at this age you may also find benefit in reading face to face, allowing your child to tune into your expressions alongside the book. Remember, there’s nothing your baby loves seeing more than you. Rest assured this stage doesn’t last forever. You’ll be snuggling up for longer sessions in no time. And while we’re on the topic of reading, I want to give a special shout out to my friends at Reach Out and Read, which is a fantastic program you may know from distributing books and sharing advice like this via your pediatrician’s office. Today I’m thrilled to be the guest on their newest podcast, discussing my book The Daycare Myth. I’ll include a link in the first reply below.

🦕💬 • 260611 [01:03 AM KST] 41 voice notes transcripted/translated in order: hi how did you like made by riize? you’re asking if i ate dinner? i didn’t eat. i ate lunch kind of late, but i ate a hearty lunch. i also wanted to do a live as i finished work, but while wondering if i should do a live or not, something new to do popped up. and while i was doing it, it got too late. so i'll do a live later. go knicks! lately, the NBA's a hot topic lately. knicks. crazy. i don't know, you know... basketball that well, but i remember growing up they were sort of *the team* that people, yk cheered on. but i don't remember anyone saying that they were doing great, or anything. but apparently they're in the finals rn and they're doing rly well, so also can't forget the world cup. world cup season rn, so... just sports season.. sports season, crazy, yeah? [singing dyd] how is it? riize's challenge. easy, right? do it lots, please~ these days, a lot of short-form [videos] are coming up, as you've probably seen. I thought it might be fun if everyone did that together... what do you think? live... there's a way to turn it on, but even if i turned it on, i'm not sure if i could do it well. i don't have confidence rn so i'm talking like this wa, but there's only 4 days left for our comeback.. only 4 days left... how is it? are you guys looking forward to it? are u guys excited? we're going to ulsan the 15th, and wonbin hyung, said he's buying us lunch... not really. but it's our first time going to ulsan all together. we'll have our comeback there. i think it'll be fun. also, the 15th we're doing a comeback live.. we've been doing it every comeback... and at the live stream we'll be high school students.. but it could honestly be university students too.. or really just do it without a concept, but i think it'll be fun... just... it'll be fun... so, while doing that we'll talk about the comeback whatever happens i want us all to just create fun memories together, and since it’s summer, how about you all enjoy summer together with riize... how does that feel? how's this pfp? i like it ㅎㅎ engddongi, eng, engddon ah, right. also with taro hyung, we'll appear at salon drip... i also think that will be fun when it comes out. the recording was also fun, with doyeon nuna.. please watch it ah... you guys can hear the dryer? i won't tell you who's clothes it's drying, it's a secret~ since you could look at this as something im trying out instead of doing a live stream i won't be able to do it super often or every single day, but I think it wouldn't be bad to use this feature again sometime what do you think? ah, but languages are difficult it's not easy to unify into just one language now, but on the other hand, it's really fun. somehow, this chat room..? is that right? realizing that this place is totally global and international is in a way pretty cool. haha anyway, after a long time i rode a bike again.. there was a lot of sunlight... sunlight.. did lots of photosynthesis but what was a real mistake was first of all the bicycle didnt have a basket, and I didnt wear a comfortable backpack. i came out carrying a somewhat awkward/uncomfortable bag, so i really messed up on top of that the bicycle was incredibly heavy, but then the battery completely died... so I almost cried. without even realizing it I had gone so far away so I suffered a bit. that’s the story i also have the feeling i bruised my butt a bit... ㅎㅎ but that will also become a funny memory, right? how's riizing summer vacation? i think there were really a lot of funny moments... sungchan hyung was so funny... sungchan hyung said somewhere he hasn't eaten ramyeon in a year ㅎㅎ and sungchan hyung honestly isn't the type to eat ramen alone, he's on the not eating it side... but he's always like 'one bite, one bite'... so if we put all that together, wouldn't it be a plate of ramen?ㅎㅎ for me, at the beginning of our debut, it was a bit... you know how while filming content, i ended up grilling meat and all? but now, grilling meat... well, i don't think it's that bad also, back when we went to japan to shoot our album jacket photos and the trailer, we visited a lot of vinyl (LP) shops... and that was actually the first time in my life buying an LP with my own money when i was young i went to la to play, and then there was this famous 'amoeba music' store. i looked around and everything, but honestly back then i really wasn't that much interested in LPs. so i bought things like a lot of stickers and used them to decorate my laptop. somehow, after that time, [it was like] I truly spent time in a vinyl shop? but visiting now that I'm a bit older, it was so much fun there are so many songs I don’t know, and tons of songs that aren't even famous so back then in japan, duran duran is a really famous band, but I bought duran duran's Notorious LP and then I also bought Barry Finnertys,, barrynims NY City LP. what was so surprising was that as soon as I listened to the LP, the sound and quality were so good that I was like, 'wow, what is this?' but when I looked it up on the internet, it only had like 3,000 views on YouTube? I think it was 3,000, so because it was so good, I bought it. and after that yesterday too while wandering around here and there, i happened to walk into a cafe and they had LPs there too so yesterday, I bought one or two ㅎㅎ lp's no mater how you look it they have a vibe... its true that nowadays you can just look up and listen to everything on your phone, but another good thing about it (lps) is that I think it’s really great for finding songs you don't know so when going to the lp shop you get to learn a lot of new songs that you didn't know before. even if you don't go with the sole purpose of buying an LP, it's just... really great for discovering things... should I say? a riize lp would also be good... back then, during boom boom bass, we even went there and did all that stuff with our LP too... how was the video editing? back then when i went to school when doing things like presentations, together with other students we would edit videos.. i did lowkey find that kind of stuff pretty fun though because it was pretty much my first time [doing that] since back during those days... but really i think it was fun like... yeah.. i want to try to do it again when i was young i did draw. i drew for fun but it had been such a long time since i last properly sat down and tried to draw something properly with a pencil.. i think it's been such a long time i'm probably the worst at drawing in my family? ㅎㅎ my dad's good, my mom's also good.. my grandpa also draws reaññu well. but it was fun drawing again, so i also want to try that again... why is there so many things i want to do? really why is it? and above all, i want to work really hard on music so that someday i can show you even more. now, like from the trailer to the full version that was uploaded to our site... those kinds of things are a bit different from just being a song, though.. now everyone, let's try meditating together with me sorry.. anyways.. i have to leave in a couple hours actually, so.. time to hit the hay, yeehaw i can't fall asleep right away ㅎㅎ this.. seems like it might be a bit difficult to interpret/translate.. (yes anton, it is,,,) next time it might be better to just turn on a live stream instead ㅎㅎ sorry wow... sleep is really not coming... [1 video] [1 picture] ok jinja gn

I would like to explain the latest batch of viral videos I'm working on to the bemused brainrot-curious reader who is not familiar with "the culture". Why are these characters, mixed with this song, going viral? It's all about connecting infinite referential mirrors. What makes this video interesting are not its individual parts but the signifier links it draws. Let's look at the individual parts: ONE: The song is a Brazilian funk or "pancadão" song called MC Lan e MC WM - Sua Amiga Vou Pegar, these days part of what's broadly referred as Brazilian phonk or just phonk (not to be confused with the original phonk, a Memphis-derived genre from the early 2010s built around chopped Three 6 Mafia samples, cowbells and lo-fi tape hiss and etc. The Brazilian version comes an entirely different lineage and got its name adapted from “funk” to “phonk” exclusively because the names sounded similar. It has a similarly menacing posture but swaps the rap cadence for funk's 4/4 with kicks on 1 and 3 rhythm and a much heavier, distorted 808 synth sound). Phonk is often used for its exaggerated reverb feeling bass lines to signify power, style or simply "aura", which you can take as a shorthand for poise, coolness, being de-bon-air and a general detached positive feeling of high status. Aura. Because most users cannot understand the Portuguese lyrics (which are often quite vulgar and sexual), the singing takes the characteristic of a chant, something to be appreciated entirely for its sound, texture and gravitas. The vocals are just another instrument where you can appreciate the menace and swagger of the delivery directly without the cognitive friction of meaning. Non-Portuguese-speaking audiences are not missing anything they were supposed to get, they get “the vibe” that matters, which is not lyrical. These songs are often paired with (male) characters that are taken to display these traits like American Psycho's Patrick Bateman (yes, yes I know that’s the opposite of what you should feel about the character), Peaky Blinder's Thomas Shelby and a menagerie of anime characters like Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen), Yujiro Hanma (Baki) and Goku and, really, any male character that is just a little bit cool. TWO: The man in the suit is a minor Family Guy character called Tom Tucker. The reference comes from a scene where Meg sees him walking through her school and says "It's Tom Tucker from the news!” We then cut to her POV, where he is walking in slow motion with soft romantic music swelling and birds chirping, the whole love-at-first-sight trope. Then a camera crew member off-screen yells "hurry up Mr. Tucker," and we get to see he is not walking in slow motion because Meg is infatuated, he is just walking that slowly in real life. Only the music and the birds were in her head. The gag is built on the viewer recognizing the romantic-slow-motion trope, briefly accepting it as the scene's reality, and then being shown that we (and Meg) projected the trope onto what is actually just a man walking very slowly. HA! The original gag is already about projection: a neutral image (slow walk) being assigned an external meaning (romance) by a viewer's pattern-recognition. This is what makes the edit-culture appropriation work so well. The clip got stripped of its context, paired with phonk and text overlays (AURA or “Me and the boys going to detention”), and retroactively assigned a new meaning, only this time it’s the cinematic nonchalant walk, the slow deliberate gait that signifies a man who knows he's the most important thing in the frame (ta la any 1980s Schwazerneggerian action movie hero walking away from an explosion without looking back, every yakuza boss entering a room, every western gunslinger approaching the duel). The edit is ostensibly projecting a trope onto a neutral image. The first projection was romance; the second projection is aura. Family Guy clips and gifs are easy to access and repost, which makes it a readily available and easy to use building block. The show has, through sheer volume of output and over two decades of YouTube and cable TV saturation, become a kind of public-domain visual library, a default vocabulary that any editor can pull from knowing the audience will recognize the source without having to be told, and we can just keep loading meaning onto it. THREE: The character in the background is Tom, from Tom and Jerry, doing a pose made famous by an iShowSpeed fan who encountered him during a livestream. By quickly and correctly identifying Speed by his full legal name ("Darren Jason Watkins Jr"), she showcased herself to be a true fan, which he responded to with his characteristic exaggerated reactions. The pose the girl hit, with the knowing look to the camera, produced a perfect “aura moment” complete commitment, zero irony, the unshakeable conviction that what she was doing was the coolest possible thing to do. As a result, the clip then got endlessly edited with "aura 🥶🥶🥶" captions to canonize it. Aura, in this lexicon, is not granted by the universe; it is summoned by the person's own belief that they have it and by displaying the correct attitude. Tom is also dressed as the previously mentioned Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders, which is itself a double signifier. The name match (“Thomas”, get it?) and the suit-and-flat-cap costume turn the cartoon cat into a stand-in for the perhaps most used "high-aura" male character of the past decade, the brooding gangster patriarch whose every cigarette drag has been set to phonk, cinematic scores and electronic music a thousand times over. On top of that, he is made entirely out of chrome, a popular trope of asking ChatGPT (one of the few AI tools people have easy and broad access to) to render things out of very high quality materials to indicate "rarity" or "status" like diamonds, platinum and etc. A sign that itself descends from a longer lineage of in-game cosmetic rarity tiers (League of Legends, MMOs, various skin economy freemium game, the Fortnite battle pass, the Pokémon shiny, dacha games and etc) where material finish is the visual shorthand of value. So "chrome" or "platinum" Tom on top of all previous signifiers signals a “maximized” or “maxxd” version. The image is suppose to invoke the superlative highest possible tier, rarest-drop, legendary-rarity version of aura, the way a kid in a playground would describe their dad as not just strong but the strongest in the world. FOUR: Finally, the background black hole calls back to the original Tom image, where he is surrounded by the universe itself, having ascended. The character has transcended the diegetic frame of his own cartoon and now exists at a cosmological scale, with the black hole standing in for the kind of unmotivated, vibes-based "cosmic" imagery that has become the default background for any video trying to signify that something Big is happening (the same visual motif that has powered comic book characters, anime transformations, video game power ups and anything wants to feel grandiose or “epic” without specifying what about). The black hole means significance in the abstract. At this point I think you understand the mechanism at play here. None of these references resolve to a stable meaning on their own. Tom Tucker is “cool” only in the very short context in which his image served as a substrate; he was convenient footage to pair with a song, and the absurdity of doing an "aura edit" on such a minor, strange character scene makes it all funnier and easier to share. Tom-the-cat is doing the aura pose > the aura pose comes from the iShowSpeed girl > the iShowSpeed girl was cool because she correctly played her part in an established bit of a large streamer with the correct timing and theatrical flair > the bit was cool because it was a shared convention unified by a popular central streamer figure > the convention existed because phonk edits had already trained this exact scenario to be read as confidence-plus-detachment as aura > the chrome finish points to AI image generation quirks > the AI image generation style can be mapped to gaming visual rarity shorthands; the gaming rarity tiers point to a much older logic of precious-metal-as-status. Each step on the referential chain is propped by the one behind it, and the one behind it is propped up by the one behind that, so on and so forth. There is no natural endpoint, the entire structure functions more akin to a network than a linked list. If you stop at any single point and ask "but why is particular signifier cool or funny or interesting”, the answer is always "because of the thing behind it.” It’s hyper-citation, Here, what matters is the structure of the whole rather than the content. This is structure is what I mean by infinite referential mirrors. The rate at which a concept is referencing, remixing and calling back to another is what’s interesting. In other words, It’s the velocity that matters. The chain of recognitions, each "I get that reference," and the cumulative effect of getting six references stacked on top of each other a short span of time gives you the feeling that you are participating in something dense and alive, because it allows you to recognize the shared meme ecosystem of the platform that you are participating in, even if only a glimpse of it. You are inside the culture rather than outside it. The brainrot-curious reader who watches this video and feels nothing, has “failed” to understand the joke because they are outside the hall of mirrors I am describing. You can only get the magic if you step in and start counting the reflections: the song, the suit, the cat, the chrome, the black hole, the transitions the video uses. You are looking at connected parts of this network of symbols and at the speed at which one image hands you off to the next. The entire thirteen-second clip is functioning as a single compressed referential payload that decompresses in the viewer's head into a small private essay exactly like this one. The video allows you to recognize yourself as someone capable of decoding it, and that recognition is the reward. That’s why media like this goes viral.
