Was there. Seats lower level, on the side (Jerry) about even with him. Got to seats early. My buddy noticed the extra mic. We had no idea what we were in for. Best live performance I’ve ever seen. Unreal.

Thank You for posting the vid! It was 35 years ago, today. This show w/Branford is the treasure amongst the 9 show MSG run. The Big Round Room was buzzing, having the opportunity to see Branford again following the legendary show the previous year at Nassau Coliseum.

Just two weeks removed from their New Year's show at the same venue, the band opened this Friday night with Space Wrangler and stretched the evening into two encores. Six months later, the Grateful Dead performed their first cover of the song as an encore at their February Fillmore East show, with Pigpen on lead vocals. They performed it one more time as an encore before retiring the song until 1985, when it was reintroduced as part of a combination with Traffic's "Dear Mr. Fantasy." This medley was performed at least 28 more times, typically with Brent Mydland on lead vocals.
