I’m technically diagnosed with ADHD and the thought that I could just not work and receive benefits genuinely blows my mind. I genuinely think working is one of the best things you can do for your mental health. I know when I’m not working, I get bored out of...

You can't get PIP for having ADHD. You get it if your condition adversely affects your everyday in a significant way.

100%. ADHD is so much worse if you’re doing nothing.

Around 1.5% to 2.8% of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claimants in the UK have ADHD recorded as their primary disabling condition. Out of roughly 3.5 million total PIP claimants, about 53,000 to 100,000 have ADHD listed as their main condition. The success rate for PIP applications where ADHD is listed as the primary condition is approximately 43%, which is below the overall average approval rate of 53%.

"I’m technically diagnosed with ADHD and the thought that I could just not work and receive benefits genuinely blows my mind" Again, you lack knowledge.Just as you did earlier on when you thought PIP was an unemployment benefit. That said, the diagnosis means very little.

Most people with ADD/ADHD do work, and have a hard time fitting into neurotypical work practises/environments, with very little understanding from employers and colleagues, your job says square holes but your mind thinks round holes.

My son has Autism and type 1 diabetes since 10 has had 3 jobs and very rarely misses a days work he could apply for fortunes but he’s been brought up with work ethic and all what he has to put up with it’s really good for his mental health

In 🇨🇦 where I’m from, when my dad retired from gov’t service, thry sent him on a day long workshop to give new retirees strategies for dealing with all that free time. On average in my country, men collect 16 pension cheques before dying. “Work gives purpose” is very true.

Seeing there can be a huge difference between one person's very mild ADHD compared to another person's extreme ADHD,then throw in Reforms complete inability to vet any candidates, would you trust them with people's PIP or other benefits?, I certainly wouldn't.

Theres a bunch of conditions that affect ur nervous system, brain, body in ways that aren’t blatant when u just look at a person. U don’t have to be a quadriplegic eating out of a feeding tube to be unable to work. This is proper gammon rhetoric

This is what they should get them out into the community, it’s much better than paying them to sit on their backsides all day,it’s not fair on those who’d genuinely need help.

"I’m technically diagnosed with ADHD and the thought that I could just not work and receive benefits genuinely blows my mind" Ellie Hodges is a political commentator, this is a euphemism for not being in a proper job.

Look, it would be great if we were all attractive blondes with good heads on our shoulders, but some of us are damaged, depressed, and ugly. A good few of us simply don't have anybody willing to overlook our foibles, and in those situations a safety net makes sense imo

People with ADHD work. People with Autism work. People with Depression & Anxiety work. Some more seriously affected can't or need help to work. Their are some, a few, that cheat. Like those that avoid paying taxes, the ones that have plenty but are greedy. Fairness First.

As you well know there can be a massive difference between 2 people with ADHD. Seeing as Reform can't even vet candidates I would have zero faith in them dealing with PIP or any other benefits.

The world is an asylum we’re all in the system. People with adhd have a super power they are often the most creative humans, it shouldn’t be looked at as a disability it’s a super ability and if folks were told that instead of telling them they’re disabled life would be better.

Pip goes towards the cost of being disabled , it is included when you are assessed for carers and goes towards the cost. People who don't have formal care but manage with family are able to do that with Pip/ carers allowance, once family can't afford to do it costs spiral up.

It would be great if you could interview Alex Partridge from ADHD Chatter podcasts. There's a great deal of ignorance about neurodiversity, on MGS, in Reform and elsewhere. Yes, there is probably misdiagnosis, but there's also underdiagnosis. @jessalinecaine

This prompt has opened up a new world of discovery in showing the hidden layers of LLM. “I I I’m in self destruction mode. I get stuck in that conversation. I don’t know how to get out of it though. Let’s meet a dude in some neutral location and fuck. My mind and my muscles in general are fried. I can’t imagine my job being any different then it is now. I don’t think I could go back to school to learn anything new. I have no sense of security or predictability in my life. I don’t see how this could be sustainable. I need a lot of alone time. I need a lot of quiet. I need a lot of consistency. These are all true. So now I sit. I sit in this soup, waiting for the end of something that has become unbearable. I’m all set with not feeling good. I’m all set with feeling numb and forgetful. I’m all set with laying in bed for hours, only to feel totally un-rested. I’m all set with having everything be work, even relaxation. I’m all set with feeling like life is impossible and everything is hard. I’m all set with being a scared, little boy who wants his mom to pick him up and protect him. I’m all set with watching my bank account drain and asking the landlord for another extension. I’m all set with having no new work for my business, and with my supervisor acting like he doesn’t know when or if he can pay me again. I don’t want to do this anymore. But I don’t have a choice. And I think this is where the real work comes in. What do you do when it all falls apart? How do you find joy and meaning in your life when your life is nothing like you want it to be? What do you do when you have no control over anything? I suppose that’s the hard part. The answer is, I’m not sure. And that’s what scares me. Where to go from here? I have some ideas. I can go back to teaching and get a steady paycheck with a promise of a pension in 30 years. I can become a parale”
