I'm trying out the custom HLSL node feature of VFX Graph (available from Unity 2023.2). Now I can extend VFX Graph with custom shader code.

For the love of our eyeballs, do not align your ember particles to velocity! Don’t give them that comet texture either, ugh. Let’s make ✨physically based flying embers✨ A Unity vfx graph implementation and explanation below. 🧵

Hey Guys! I’ve been thinking about writing a book focused on Shader Graph and everything I’ve compiled over the past 6 years But I really want to know: would you be interested in something like that? Please let me know in the comments! #shadergraph #madewithunity #vfx #gamedev

Another level unlocked with Unicorn Studio Custom code/shaders with the help of OpenAI ChatGPT. I saw George Hastings mention using LLM's to help with custom code. Now it seems like anything is possible.

I'm upgrading the 2-pass shader so you can create effects like this without requiring overlapping materials or custom shader work. It'll allow for a lot of other, more normal things, but this one looks cool. This uses two materials, but it's a good example of what I'm trying to achieve.

Cursor position and color uniforms are now available to custom shaders in Ghostty, enabling cursor animations (and other effects). Video below is a rough demo of something simple. Can't wait to see what the custom shader community does with this. :) Docs:

I'm making a bunch of code I use in my games publicly available. Lots of good stuff like 2d drop shadows, pseudo 3d effects, vfx, npc vision, IK, save system, level system etc. #godotengine

Particle explosions 🎇, volumetric illumination using pre-rendered lightmaps and multiple lights (point, directional). I strongly prefer Unity's default particle system over VFX Graph for these kinds of effects. The latter is overkill, cumbersome to work with, and really only necessary in instances where you're working with data directly from the GPU (and/or extremely high particle counts). #unity3d #gamedev

if you use claude code, this will save you real money. the problem: every time you make an edit, your ai rereads the whole codebase to figure out what changed. tens of thousands of tokens, every turn, for context it already had. this repo fixes it. it’s called code review graph, and it just maps your entire codebase: every file, every function, every connection laid out so you can see the actual shape of your project how to set up (2 min): 1. pip install code-review-graph 2. code-review-graph install - auto-configures Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI + more 3. code-review-graph build change one function, and it traces exactly what that touches... every caller, every dependent file, every test. your ai only reads what's affected, not the whole repo. and the savings are wild. a task that used to burn ~100,000 tokens (about a dollar) now runs closer to a penny.
