With the support of All India Chess Federation and NVS INDIA, we will soon roll out a pilot program across 30 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), bringing a structured chess curriculum right into the classroom. Along with Nitin Narang and Srinath Narayanan, I wish every young student the very best as they make their first gambit!

Battle Chess was a brilliant 1988 game by Interplay Entertainment that revolutionized chess gaming. Pieces animate vividly on the board, exploding into hilarious, brutal combat sequences during captures. So, instead of the (many) rather dry and standard chess games that existed, Battle Chess took the more playful path. For a while, I tried all the different battle animations, sacrificing pieces , just to see how they would perish. All jokes aside, it got me into chess more than anything else. Did you play it back in the day?

During the 2025 U.S. Chess & U.S. Women’s Championship, the sudden passing of GM Daniel Naroditsky deeply affected everyone in the chess community. At the closing ceremony, Rex Sinquefield spoke with heartfelt emotion about Daniel’s legacy and the inspiration he brought to so many. Rex Sinquefield said: "He [Daniel Naroditsky] was a friend of the Club and the World Chess Hall of Fame for a long time, and many in the chess community and abroad. With 206 players and 83 federations from across the world, the event was truly a chess juggernaut and India’s moment on the global stage. Our sincere thanks to Aadarniya Pradhan Mantri Shri Narendra Modi ji for motivating us and for his constant support to chess. Our deepest regard to Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya ji, Chief Minister of Goa Shri Pramod Sawant ji and his government for their support and personal interest in organising the FIDE World Cup. Thanks to all the players, officials and colleagues of the All India Chess Federation and Goa Chess Association for their efforts, teamwork and dedication in making this tournament historic and a textbook case.
