Recently, I watched a video of a white woman making a weird joke about how if she had to save a white person or a Vietnamese person's life she's saving the Vietnamese person because "who was going to make her a banh mi" that's what this viscerally gave me flashbacks to....

I guess I can see both sides, but I don’t know. It’s not an Asian fetish to like anime and K-Pop/dramas, but there are people who do have that fetish and like those things. It’s nuanced, someone most people don’t like/understand.

i agree with him because he’s speaking from his personal experiences, so it makes sense that he’d be cautious about dating people who are really into east asian media if he’s repeatedly experienced fetishization from that demographic.

I think what this boils down to is this: are you dating someone because they’re Asian or because you like who they are. The former case is people who usually date Asian people based on stereotypes (ie white men who date Asian women bc they think they’re more submissive.).

i can see the asian fetish when it comes to animes bc a lot of the time, most of them do have a fetish. kpop i can also see but usually i see it with younger teens but i can still see it, and kdrama i can kinda understand too bc u get an idea for asia and fall in love with it
