How is that groundbreaking? - plants always absorb CO2, its called photosynthesis. Plants also did this when I learned about it in school back in the seventies/eighties.... You do not need a supercomputer for that...I suggest you find another purpose for that computer 😂

I am waiting for plants that emit enough bioluminescent light to bathe a street (so we don't need streetlights) and grow in the dark (so we double CO2 capture) We're getting closer to that thanks to @Lab_Nagai efforts for the last decade

To the folks commenting on "crops that absorb CO2", could it be, that it is a no brainer that the plant itself with the stems and the grain and roots, "store" CO2, but instead this is talking about ways of storing the CO2 in the ground, even after harvesting.

In the near future, AI will be used to create new viruses and lethal weapons that decide by themselves who to kill or maim. There is also a long-term existential threat that will arise…We now have evidence that AI created by companies motivated by short-term profits will not prioritize the safety of humanity. We need research on how to prevent these AI beings from taking control. They are no longer science fiction.” When the pioneer of AI is warning humanity about the existential dangers of his own creation it’s time not just to listen, but to take action by stopping the one thing the billionaires need to power the dystopian AI world they’re trying to create: Data Centers.

Some people keep saying not to learn to code on the grounds that AI would automate it. We will look back on that as some of the worst career advice ever given. AI will make software development easier, just like the compiler did. Or open source. Or the cloud. More people should learn coding, not less. Steve Jobs was a great communicator of technology, and we could learn something from him today, in the context of AI. Sam Altman recently said, "If AI stays on the trajectory we think it will, then amazing things will be possible. Maybe with 10 gigawatts of compute, AI can figure out how to cure cancer." That's a fine quote. The abundance AI promises is super exciting. But Sam is saying that AI is going to figure out how to cure cancer. And if you've used these tools today, and talked to people who are at the labs, the reality is it's much more likely that humans will use AI to cure cancer. Steve might have said: "If AI stays on the trajectory we think it will, then amazing things will be possible. Maybe with 10 gigawatts of compute, humans can use AI to cure cancer." Small tweak, but a big difference. Steve Jobs was not one to shy away from impressive specs and massive scale, but flipping the final line from "AI will cure cancer" to "Humans will use AI to cure cancer" makes all the difference. Apple under Steve Jobs put human centrality at the heart of everything they did. And we need that spirit to infuse how we communicate about AI today.
