Genuine question: are engineers required to be present and sign off on these things during install/repair?

Not always.

Great info! Thank you for this education, it’s really interesting. You’re making a difference!

I appreciate your support

Absolutely true. A friend of mine lost his very young daughter when the vehicle she was riding in hydroplaned, hitting the guardrail. She was decapitated when it did not give way. Keep up the good fight!

Sorry about your friend's daughter. The description sounds very familiar. Was this a crash in Ohio?

Are we not going to talk about the guardrail post embedded in mid air. That's not doing what it's supposed to do. If the "Don't do that" home inspector inspected guardrail....Don't do that...

About 50 things I should have touched on!!!!

Are they that complicated? Or is the average road worker illiterate? IKEA directions? Why is it getting so messed up?

We are working on IKEA directions at the federal level.

Be thankful guys like this exist. They are the people that go back and fix everyone’s screw ups.

He does a really poor job explaining what he is upset about. Didn’t understand a thing.

For anyone who doesn’t understand, skip to 9:25 in this video for a visual explanation:

I don’t understand what’s going on. He probably explained it well but I need more context

This video at 9:26 shows how its designed to work. From what I understand that square bracket is fixed and can't break away and would get jammed in the terminal once it got to it.

Imagine sucking at driving so badly that you come into contact with said guardrail.

At a certain point I wonder if the guardrail design can be improved to make them harder to install wrong. Even color-coding bolt types with their corresponding holes would help it seems.

Well the goal is to not hit it in the first place. So there's that

But that is in the middle of the guard rail. It isn’t on the end so who cares? It isn’t going to affect anything in that location which is probably why it wasn’t removed. All it does is slightly stiffen about one foot of the rail; inconsequential. Or are we all supposed to be secretly sarcastic here? I don’t get it.

I hope you find your way to the companies that make and install these guardrails. Maybe you can earn a living teaching them how to install them properly. Naming and shaming will likely remain important for the people in the councils.

maybe....just maybe, they want it to stop there to hep keep a car from falling down there

Let me know when guardrails get designed to not kill motorcyclists. Otherwise don't care.

I've seen enough of these vids that I think we need a small government agency just for guardrails

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's really amazing what you're doing here to make sure no one else has to go through that. Keep on making the world a better place, brother.

I can’t go a day without seeing a guardrail and not think about your daughter and yourself, and this is a good thing. Becuase of your determination and videos I’m realizing there’s many GRs in my community that need to be addressed and I’m going to take that seriously. I have 3 kids that will be driving in the near future. Thank you

They died because they were texting and wrecked. They will blame it on the guardrail though

So what happens now? Is this reported & fixed immediately? Is there any type of system for addressing this?
I appreciate the info, with 1 young adult driving 1 a few years away an 1 further then that I just wanted to say thanks for what you do. Could you post locations so local residents can try to get something done with the city/state failures @theguardrailguy

I feel like it's there because the alternative is to let the car keep going and fall off into the hole on the left

I’m confused. What problem does that bracket cause. I realize it is not used with a cable now so what problem will itself cause? I understand the new style will release as he shows but the old one is not connected to a cable. Serious question - just trying to understand.

all respect but I don't get it

theres millions of ways to die when you step outside, if its your time its your time. People are not perfect and never will be, you could spend your life walking around to every little thing that's dangerous or incorrectly done causing danger it doesn't make a difference.

My sister died at the age of 17, driving to school. Tried rolling her window down, swerved & hit a broken guardrail. It went through the windshield and impaled her through the head. She was instantly killed

Appreciate the awareness you bring. It will save lives! Nobody should lose their most precious over someone else's stupidity.

Bless you and your daughter for the genuinely good work you do. It's our good deeds and service to the people that will come back to our help when most needed. Assalamualaikum, peace to you and your family.

Imagine dying because you suck at driving and couldn't avoid a guardrail.

You need to explain how this is supposed to work better.

Remember when every car had shrapnel in their airbags for about a decade? Its crazy we survived this long

=== Never knew that guardrails are designed to slide like that. === Live and learn. ===

I have Watched the whole Video, I have understood completely Nothing.
