When asked to raise your hand if you will protect immigrants in NJ from Trump and protect due process. The two members of Congress didn’t raise their hand. Shameful - @MikieSherrill + Josh Gottheimer and this is consistent with their voting records unfortunately. We need fighters

I became the first naturalized citizen to serve as the ranking member of the subcommittee on immigration. That is a testament to the amazing things that can happen in America. But it could not have happened without the legal immigration process. And this administration is dismantling that same process for the next person hoping for what I got. I’m running for re-election to continue the fight of protecting immigrant communities. No one should be made to feel less than just because they were not born here 💜

NEW: Feds say the primary target in last week’s ICE operation was the father of Milford High School student Marcelo Gomes. According to ICE, Gomes was driving his father’s vehicle at the time—and because he is in the country illegally, he was taken into custody. ICE reiterated that collateral arrests will continue as long as Massachusetts officials refuse to cooperate with detainer requests for criminal aliens. They added that Gomes will receive due process and appear before an immigration judge. “If this were just an 18-year-old with traffic violations, we wouldn’t be having this conversation,” one official said, making clear that ICE intends to continue enforcing federal immigration law—with or without state support.

Brian Morales is a U.S. citizen, born in a hospital in Denver, Colorado, with documentation to prove it… And yet, after a traffic stop in Texas, he was taken into custody and deported to Mexico with no charges, no conviction, and no due process. Morales repeatedly told officers he was a citizen and had proof, but instead of verifying that, he was threatened with fraud charges, and prison time, if he didn’t comply. He was ultimately pressured into signing removal paperwork out of fear… which is coercion, and illegal. There is no law in the United States that allows the government to deport a U.S. citizen. Citizenship is not something ICE can ignore because they don’t believe you, and it’s not something that can be stripped through intimidation. If you are born here, you belong here… period. DHS claims he admitted to being undocumented… even though he had proof he was not… and we’re expected to accept that version without questioning how that “admission” was obtained in the first place. This also didn’t happen at the border, it happened after a routine traffic stop in Texas, which means the standard here wasn’t immigration enforcement at the border, it was treating citizenship like it’s conditional, and revocable, on the spot. If citizenship can be ignored, if proof can be dismissed, and if people can be threatened into signing away their rights, then due process is being bypassed entirely… and if this can happen to Brian Morales, it can happen to anyone.

Folks, I shared the below video in nearly the moments it happened: I was informed that ICE/DHS was touring a potential “mega detention facility” in south #KansasCity and decided to stop by. As I was observing, from my truck at a taxpayer subsidized facility; I was swarmed by ice agents. They attempted to threaten to have me arrested for trespassing if I didn’t leave; however they blocked me in both the front and rear of my truck. I refused to get out until a supervisor came over. I identified myself and my position, and asked what was going on. I confirmed they are looking to place a 7,500 bed facility in this or a similar building in the area from the agents. Local Electeds must step up, and engage. We cannot sit ideally by and let things happen in our community. Today, I put my and my families security on the line. What are YOU willing to sacrifice for democracy in America? 🇺🇸 🇲🇽
