Imo, it was a catch by the rule as it is written Rule 8.1.3 requires: A. Secure ball B. Two feet inbounds Then: C. Football move, or ground contact that does not dislodge the ball Cooks does secure possession, and the ball remains firmly in possession after ground contact

When you slow plays down to 1/100th the speed, it distorts what actually happened and makes it look like, in this case, Cooks possessed the ball for seconds prior to losing it. The game is not played in slow motion or frame by frame. Was it close? Yes! Did refs get it wrong? No. Brandin Cooks DID NOT maintain possession all the way through. Both men had hands on the ball, but Cooks instantly loses grip once he hits the ground. Therefore, it’s a live ball until FULLY possessed or it touches grass.

This is a textbook example of why the "ball to hand" rule exists. According to IFAB Law 12, a handball is not an offense if the ball is hit on the hand or arm directly from a teammate’s kick or header at close range. Vitinha smashed the ball into Neves from point-blank range and so, it is classified as “unpreventable contact”, the rule is superseded by proximity. Neves has zero reaction time to move his arm when the ball is coming off a teammate’s foot from two yards away. There’s also the fact that it was a defensive clearance and not an opponent's shot or a goal-bound ball, there is no "unfair advantage" gained. So, this wasn’t a pen, IMO

This is NOT a foul. Thomas legally gets to the ball and knocks the ball loose prior to any contact. The leg to leg contact is incidental once the ball is clearly loose. This was correctly judged in real time as a no call as were the subsequent technical fouls.

The restart would be a free kick to the goalkeeper’s team. Fox Footy MRO explanation: 'The ball is handballed in the direction of Waterman with Pickett approaching from side on with his eyes firmly fixed on the ball. As soon as Pickett realised Waterman was going to take possession of the ball he decelerates, lowers his body and drops his right arm in an attempt to minimise impact before making inevitable contact to Waterman. It was the view of the MRO that Pickett did not elect to bump and that his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.'

A “tip” is when you catch the ball and throw the ball during the same jump.. you’re not allowed to be in contact with the ground and the ball at the same time on the defensive side of YOUBall and MANY other driveway basketball games

This is why you make a play on the ball to the best of your ability, then see if there was a foul or ground rule double. Especially when there’s an obvious gap between the ball and the wall. The umpire's reaction was hilarious though: totally made the clip for me. Looks like C.B Bucknor
