NICE! You might already have these in mind, but two things that might help are, (1.) no fade out cause it loses the impact. (2.) Making it a bit more blinding and a little more flickery. Not epileptic amounts 😅 but I often see frames going from primary white to black and switch.

god damn i've heard about scrolling textures and other neat Game dev SFX tricks but how in the world does this one work? im assuming both the player and target gets isolated into a black and white silhouette then some kind of warp effect? that or a displacement map?

I do use a displacement map, but then some extra logic to redo the lighting directly in the material based on some blueprint logic. There is much more I want to add to this effect though, it's only the first step.

I went to the Kung Fu movie museum in Hong kong, and the one they talk about is showing the punch hit twice, very cool work
