Here are some comparisons to the original cutscene. (1/5):

The idea to redraw the cutscenes came from Matt, our UI artist, who thought the original 480p cutscenes were distracting next to the higher resolution gameplay (2/5).

Over the course of a week, Matt separated the characters and backgrounds, then made a rough reanimation in After Effects, leading to the video in the original post (3/5).

After we got a sense of how much work would be required, we decided to search online for more artists to help (4/5).

Even if you're not an artist, please share these posts to others. If we get enough people, the updated cutscenes might make it into the next version of Reignition! If not, the next release will only contain the original cutscenes. Thank you! (5/5)

my only critism is don't make these 60FPS it breaks the pacing of the panels. You're not dealing with 3D graphics here.

By reanimated you mean redrawn right?

Redrawn, and subsequently recreated in After Effects. Since that's pretty much all the animation Secret Rings' cutscenes have, I think "Reanimated" is fairly accurate.

Gonna rant for a second, and jump on the “cutscenes have evolved backwards” bandwagon for a second because the downgrade in Assassin’s Creed cutscenes is diobolical, and even though I talked about it in my videos. I need to tweet it too. By the way, I'm NOT just specifically talking about mocap here, just basic handcrafted animations. There is no subtle body movement, no eyebrow shifts, no facial expressions, no nuance. It’s all robotic, like the whole character model moves at once like a puppet. It just removes any sort of emotional connection with characters, and that's one of the reasons why characters in recent AC games are so forgettable. The other is writing, but that's a different topic. I get that these are big RPG games and older AC is more smaller focused (debatable as an excuse), but it’s still a filthy drop off. I honestly think Ubisoft are about 10+ years behind with how they handle cutscenes. This is a AAA company with budgets of hundreds of millions in their games. Bigger budgets than so many other AAA companies. Even that new lower budget Game of Thrones game for mobile looks better in some cutscenes. You got games like KCD2 with smaller budgets delivering so many high quality mocapped cutscenes. You got Horizon Forbidden West which IMO excels at cutscenes and that game is a massive RPG open world game. The Witcher 3 came out 10 years ago and the side quest cutscenes look better than AC Shadows main story cutscenes. I'm sorry, but there is no excuse. It's the same with past Ubisoft games. Far Cry 3, 4 and 5 have some of the best looking cutscenes i've seen in a long time. And then you play 6, and it's so different. Same with Watch Dogs 1 and 2. Great looking cutscenes, but then Legion looks robotic. Same with Star Wars Outlaws, Same with Avatar. This is the biggest concern I have for Hexe. I don’t think it would improve. I could be so wrong, but I worry that with Hexe, it'll be once again robotic facial expressions. Yeah it'll have a better engine, and pretty graphics and world, ooh wow. But cutscenes I feel will be lazily put together, and just draw any type of emotional connection to the characters out. Imagine they fuck up the Black Flag remake by implementing hand crafted procedurally generated AC Shadows type cutscenes. (The picture is a comment I recieved that I thought is interesting to read)
