Among its efforts to correct historical wrongs, the Modi government has mandated that the complete six-stanza version of Vande Mataram be sung at government programmes, schools, and official functions. The original 3-minute-10-second composition by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee will now be rendered in full before Jana Gana Mana, with attendees standing at attention.
