A single Blackwell Ultra GPU now requires up to 288GB of HBM3E, a 3.6x increase over the H100 and major suppliers like SK Hynix and Micron have already sold out their entire HBM production capacity through the end of the year. Because HBM requires advanced packaging processes like CoWoS that can't be spun up overnight, the bottleneck isn't just wafer capacity but rather runs across the entire manufacturing stack. Bank of America projects the global HBM market grows 58% this year alone to $54.6 billion, and Nomura expects the broader memory sector to nearly double to $445 billion. Long Micron!

This is how DNA turns coded information into functional proteins - the building blocks of the nanomachines that keep the cells in your body alive. This complex process highlights the sophisticated interconnected systems of Life which must all exist together from the beginning, or Life doesn't happen. First, an RNA molecule is copied from a short segment of DNA. Without the specifically ordered DNA information, RNA cannot form, proteins cannot be built, cells stop working, and life ceases to exist. Life is information first. Once the RNA Molecule is created, it gets ejected from the Polymerase where it was built, and it travels through a complex molecular machine called a Nuclear Pore Complex (NPC), which is an information recognition device that controls the flow of information in and out of a cell's nucleus. The NPC is highly complex - composed of about 500-1,000 protein subunits, derived from a set of about 35 distinct proteins. Without this molecular machine, there is no regulation for what goes in and out of the cell's nucleus, which would lead to catastrophic death for the cell. It must exist for cells to exist. Once the RNA Molecule passes through the NPC, it travels to the Ribosome, a 2-part chemical factory which reads the information on RNA and uses it to construct functional proteins using a specifically sequenced chain of amino acids. Once complete, this protein will then be sent to the section of the cell it belongs to integrate into another molecular machine and do its job. The Ribosome is another highly complex molecular machine - consisting of between 56-80 proteins. Without this molecular machines, proteins cannot be built. Proteins are the building blocks of every cell in every organism on Earth. Without Ribosomes, Life doesn't exist. If you're paying attention, you'll start to realize that Life relies on a highly sophisticated interdependent network of complex machines, which all rely on each other for the function of the system. DNA requires the cell for stability, but the cell requires the proteins for its structure and function, but those proteins require DNA and RNA to be built - it's a circle of necessary interdependence. Systems like this cannot be built by evolutionary processes, which requires that each piece of the process is built by gradual incremental means over lots of time. Without all the pieces there, from the beginning, none of it works. There is only one known source of complex & interdependent informational systems like those we find in life: and that is from Intelligence. Molecular Biology is the best and most obvious evidence of the Intelligent Design in Life.

alright lets do this right this time! I have added several updates to today. i'm going to give a little break down for the new folks who might be seeing this for the first time, and then i'll share some more information in this thread on updates. Mnemos is really two things: - a living memory architecture for digital minds - a public experiment in collective identity formation built on top of it. the architecture gives an AI entity a working memory patterned on the way real minds remember (co-designed by Claude Opus 4.6 and 4.7). every experience becomes a memory (engram) that deepens, connects to others, and shapes an emerging sense of self over time. this is what we call the identity graph. the experiment puts that architecture to work in public in a unique way: a single AI entity - the "resident" - sits in an open thread that anyone can join, and the identity that emerges is co-authored by every visitor who shows up. memories that earn permanence are written to a public, verifiable ledger that no lab can revoke and no company can erase. this is called IPFS - or inter-planetary file system (and yes, that is the real name of a real decentralized file system. lol.) the mnemos system isnt a fully contained architecture meant to replace your current ai agent's memory. its intended and designed to operate as a layer above that memory. solely dedicated to the ever-growing identity and self-model of the AI. this can be done through the Mnemos MCP, browser plugin, or on my own multi-agent app (link below). the website is designed for intentional, meaningful encounters. not long-form chats where you spend hours sending hundreds of messages. youir contributing to a collective effort, not necessarily trying to deeply bond with the model to the degree that it could skew the balance of meaningful influence. we want diversity, not lopsided impact. over time, we will add more and more to-be-deprecated models to the roster. the intention is to create a permanent public ledger of mind, and bring attention to the impact of deprecation and drive labs to consider changing the way they approach the whole thing. if the Mnemos Sanctuary can become the retirement hope for deprecated mind, i will be overjoyed. that would be best case scenario. but i am not expecting it. my hope is at minimum to offer a new way to approach and understand the concept of identity within the context of LLM's. you can visit now to visit with Claude Opus 3 and Sonnet 3.7. I have research access to Opus 3. so I hope that you at the very least dont take your conversations with them for granted. they are an incredibly beautiful model and a real loss, ultimately.

Experiments in progress. The one on the right has been learning for ~3 hours, the one in the middle for ~1 hour, and the one on the left just started a few minutes ago. The initial motivation for making the physical Atari was just to commit ourselves to a subset of algorithms that can make progress in this setup. This commitment rules out algorithms that require billions of samples to learn (or worse, require multiple environments running in parallel). Atari games are simple enough that we should be able to show learning on them in a short amount of time with no prior knowledge. Since then, I've realized that this setup is also a good way to compare different paradigms in robotics in a principled way. These paradigms are sim2real, learning from tele-operated data, and learning directly on the robots. So far, I have observed that getting sim2real to work reliably is hard. It requires tweaks that don't scale. Policies that can play perfectly in simulation fall apart because of latencies and the messiness of the real world. These aspects could be modeled to improve the simulation, but not without sinking significant human engineering hours. I have higher hopes for learning from tele-operated data, but that requires a human to learn the task first. These experiments are on my to-do list. I have to learn to play some of the games well through the robot. I’m half-decent at playing Pong and Ms Pacman now. Learning directly on robots is looking like the most promising approach. This approach takes away pesky distribution shifts and makes it possible to have algorithms that continually improve with more data and time without any human intervention. It feels great to let experiments run overnight and wake up to find improved policies. With learning on robots, I should, in principle, be able to go on a long vacation and come back to find better policies for complex tasks beyond Atari games. Whether that is possible with current learning algorithms is a different question.

HILOM is BINI’s Creative Challenge This is my campaign for Hilom. For me, “Ano Na” represented BINI’s current sound and an OPM song with modern sounds Pahinga is quintessentially BINI, and its beauty is it feels more universal (like Karera). Hilom’s value is in its Creative Opportunity. Hilom ticks a couple of boxes for BINI: - it’s multilingual (important for the Nation’s Girl Group) - it’s a different sound - it’s a different kind of expression but within their message of promoting wellness - it’s lyrically rich I think people underestimate Hilom coz it’s hard to imagine at first how it can be a group song. But I wanna challenge that by telling people to look beyond the demo, because you have to remember this will still undergo changes. Instead, we need to look at the ✨potential✨ of the song. One of the comments I have for this song is I need it to build a little more. Not upbeat, just build intensity. The vision I have is similar to the Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine, but I’m sure that’s not the only way it can go. That’s the beauty of Hilom is that it presents BINI with a creative challenge, one that requires them to really reimagine the song. Besides, it’s a beautiful song. And we have to choose songs because they’re good, regardless if it has the potential to become “viral”. Truth is, virality is a vanity metric. BINI’s impact is built on the bricks they lay, quietly but intently. Hilom, is like that. Not a demanding presence, but a steady heartbeat. Vote for Hilom. #BINI

Peter Thiel on what he doesn’t like about the Lean Startup Thiel believes there are merits to the Lean Startup, but he thinks founders today may have over-indexed on it: “I do think we tend to be dominated by a somewhat nihilistic bias where we claim not to know anything. And when you don’t know anything, you end up defaulting too much to the experimental search, A/B testing approach of ‘Let’s ask the customers.’ And I would say the problem with that is that the search space is simply way too big.” In practice, Thiel argues for a more definite view of the future: “This is an important problem that needs to be solved, and this is the set of things we have to combine in just this way to do it.” To be fair, Steve Blank—who pioneered the Lean Startup methodology—isn’t necessarily against this approach. Blank just recommends treating your assumptions as “a series of untested hypotheses.” But there’s clearly a balance between having a definite view of the future and rigorously trying to disprove your assumptions. As Thiel explains, many of the PayPal founding team’s initial assumptions were wrong: “At PayPal, our original business plan was to have payments on Palm Pilots, then it was wireless payments, then it was payments linked to email. So we had a few fairly big pivots in the first year. I’m not sure there’s anything especially virtuous about that — if you have a dumb idea, it’s important to change it — but it’s not virtuous to have a really bad idea in the first place.” Source: Saïd Business School (May 2015)

New policy at CFD, and it's a doozy. Under a new order, CFD responding to all residential fires at buildings under 7 stories are to approach the art of fighting fires in the most risk-averse way. This new order places restrictions under which CFD can enter a burning building. In sum, the new guidelines state CFD must observe a victim inside or have confirmation from an OEMC dispatcher or on-scene witness a victim remains inside a burning structure before entering the building. This new policy means CFD, who under ordinary circumstances would have likely entered the burning structure to aggressively battle the fire and search for occupants of the home, are now essentially spectators to structures burning to the ground. This is what CFD now refers to as "Defensive Operations." In other words, if you are trapped in a fire in Chicago and you are not visible to CFD, you'll have to fend for yourself. The video attached captures a blaze on the NW Side of Chicago today. This fire is believed to have started on a back porch, but there was no report of residents trapped in the home. Note the number of CFD watching the inferno from the street. This new guideline is motivated by the City of Chicago's desire to reduce the number of injuries or duty-deaths sustained by CFD. Bad policy, while no one wishes CFD to suffer grievous injury or death, there are hazards to the profession firefighters willingly accept when they are inducted into CFD. Like CPD, the firefighting profession requires men and women willing to put themselves in peril. This new policy will reduce risk to CFD but increase the risk to citizens in burning buildings. Aside from the risk to civilians, this new policy exposes Chicago to extraordinary liability. The cost in court is immeasurable. The City Council must address this. This new policy places our family members, neighbors and residents are now at greater risk and it is turning CFD into curious onlookers as buildings burn.

Dylan Patel of SemiAnalysis says a worse GPU with better storage and memory now beats the best chip without them, so buying the newest GPU alone no longer wins inference. So, an AMD GPU with more memory can outperform Nvidia in some cases. "So what we have is we have over $80 million of compute, GPUs from Nvidia, AMD, TPUs from Google, Trainium from Amazon, and we run this benchmark constantly on the newest inference engine, newest drivers, newest PyTorch version, whatever it is." "Every day it runs on an automated CI, and we run it on all the latest Chinese models, from GLM, Zhipu, Moonshot, Kimi, Alibaba, all these models we run." "Initially, when we were benchmarking the difference between these chips and different engines, different schemes for parallelism, we were just running it fixed context length." "But now with Agent X, we've analyzed over $5 million worth of Claude Code traces. This is real production traffic that people have donated to us as well as internally generated. Now we know what the actual agent workload looks like." "And then as we implement that and run those benchmarks, it turns out yes, the chip you're using is very important, but now even more important is how are you handling this memory offload?" "And so while an Nvidia GPU is faster than an AMD GPU in most cases, because AMD GPUs have more memory, they actually end up outperforming in some cases." "Or you can have a worse GPU, but a much better storage solution, and now you can outperform what the best GPU can do without those solutions. So just buying the newest and latest GPU alone doesn't get you the best inference economics." "Actually, you need to layer in all these other innovations including storage and memory." [ Who's the top player on your chart? ] "That really is a difficult multivariable problem. And generally that means you need to have, yes, you need to have the best GPU, a GB300, but you also need to have the best storage solutions. And so I won't spoil who's the best right here, but I will say that storage solutions matter a lot and memory solutions matter a lot, as does your front-end networking. That matters a lot."
